Book A Hotel

I have reviewed the best club lounges in London. I am a big fan of the club lounge at the Langham London with excellent food and staff. But in my humble opinion, the Club InterContinental which includes the lounge at the InterContinental Park Lane and the lounge at the InterContinental London The O2, have by far the best views, if you like to relax looking out upon the world.

What’s Special About Club InterContinental London The O2?

Why do I rank the Club InterContinental The O2 lounge so highly? This lounge is modern and beautifully furnished with plenty of comfy sofas and chairs, and there are two prime positions in this lounge, each with a set of sofas arranged around a coffee table right by the window of this lounge.

The views from this window are simply amazing. Straight in front of you is the River Thames, and behind the river is Canary Wharf, with its ever-growing array of skyscrapers towering up in front of you. It really is a spectacular view, particularly at night, when the main tower with its triangular roof seems to smoke like a chimney into the night sky. This view is the closest thing that London has to the Manhattan skyline. In front of the towers is the River Thames, a main artery for London’s transport system. Police boats and bus boats whizz up and down. They go so fast (30 knots or 40mph) that it looks like you are watching a YouTube video on fast forward.

The amazing thing about this lounge is that it is only on level two of the hotel, and yet it feels like you are up really high!

Food & Drinks At Club InterContinental London The O2

The lounge’s food is also impressive compared to most London club lounges. In fact, with the exception of the Langham Lounge, which has an extraordinarily good food offering, and the JW Marriott Grosvenor House lounge which also fills you up, from my experience, the food offered at the Club InterContinental London The O2 has to be the third-best food selection of any lounge in London and is certainly enough to fill you up.

We did not try the breakfast in the lounge as we had breakfast in the main restaurant, which inevitably has a much larger array of food and similarly good views, a great way to start the day.

Tips

It's good to know which luxury hotels in London have the best pools, particularly if you are traveling with your family. It's always nice to hit the pool with the kids. The Peninsula, Langham, Mandarin Oriental, and Berkley pools are perfect for families because their central location means they are also within walking distance of Hamleys or Harrods Toy Department. Afternoon tea is a mix of sandwiches, cakes, and biscuits. In fact, according to my son, the best chocolate cookies in the world. They are extraordinarily good.

The evening has 3 hot dishes on offer and many cold canapes along with nuts and crisps. The hot dishes include battered prawns, mushroom balls, mini pies, and patisseries with sausages on them. The cold options include carrots and peppers in Hummus, little patisseries with fillings like avocado and fish smoked salmon, and little vegetarian options like tomatoes with cheese. The canapes and drinks are pre-dinner, so were only served 5:00 – 7:00 pm. At 7:00 pm, the booze cabinet is promptly locked, although the staff at this lounge were beyond super and always seemed to load you up with an additional bottle of beer or glass of gin before they closed up.

This made me especially love this lounge. Yes, the views are some of the best in London, and the food is enough to fill you up (and very much better than the IC Park Lane in the evenings where the canapes are limited, although we love both hotels and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at both), but the staff at the Club InterContinental London The O2 really seemed to care that you were enjoying your stay. They always seemed to spot when you were out of a drink, searching for something, and made a special effort wherever possible.

This Club Lounge is one of my favorites in London and will encourage me to return to this hotel. In fact, I am already booked in for my next conference at the Excel Center (around 20 minutes from the hotel via the Emirates Air Line cable car), and I am looking for a bargain rate for a leisure trip here over the summer. You can read my full hotel review of InterContinental London The O2 separately.

It is worth noting that the rates here vary hugely at this hotel. If you can select a night when there is no conference at Excel and no event at the O2, you can pick up a stay at this luxury hotel for an absolute bargain. It is also worth considering using your IHG® Rewards Club points here, as the rate is 45,000 points Vs. 60,000 points for the central Intercontinental in London. If you stay at both, you will see two completely different sides of London.
