Style & Character

The Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is an award-winning hotel and is widely considered one of Australia’s iconic wilderness experiences. Originally built as a home in the early 1900s, the hotel now comprises guest cabins dotted around the rustic-style lodge and is a peaceful retreat offering luxurious accommodation, restaurants, and spa facilities for those looking to explore the magnificent surroundings of the Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park. Look out for wallabies and possums as you walk around the grounds!

There is a range of different accommodations available at the hotel. Pencil Pine Cabins are closest to the Lodge, and some have balconies and views of the lake or bushland. Decorated in contemporary style, they feature queen size beds, armchairs and a coffee table, and wood-fire-look gas heaters. These rooms also benefit from minibar, tea, and coffee-making facilities, a CD player, a hairdryer, and daily housekeeping service. Also available are Spa Cabins, which feature a spa bath and shower. You can choose between a contemporary furnished one with a wood-fired look gas fire or go for the more traditional décor and wood combustion fire. Spa Suites and King Billy suites are even more luxurious, with king-size beds, spa bathrooms, and a different selection of gourmet surprises for each evening of your stay. Room Tip – Ask for a room with a real fireplace.

Service & Facilities

With some of Tasmania’s most spectacular wilderness on your doorstep, walking is a must. The activities staff at the lodge have a wide range of self-guided routes on offer, ranging from 20 minutes to 9 hours. Other activities for guests to enjoy include fly fishing, mountain biking, and a native animal night viewing tour. After all that activity, why not wind down at the Waldheim Alpine Spa? With a wide range of spa and massage treatments available, as well as a steam room, sauna, and hot tub, you will feel all aches and pains melt away as you enjoy the views of King Billy pines and fresh mountain streams.

When enjoying the walks in the area, there are a few guidelines to take into consideration, including keeping to the designated paths and wearing appropriate footwear and clothing – especially bearing in mind that the weather in this alpine region can be unpredictable. Guests are also requested to respect the natural environment by keeping all rubbish with them, not feeding the wildlife, and keeping noise to a minimum.

Food & Drink

The Highland Restaurant is open daily for a buffet breakfast and for dinner by reservation. Generally considered one of Tasmania’s premier dining experiences, it’s well worth booking a meal here to sample some fine local food and wine, expertly prepared. For more casual dining, try the Tavern Bar and Bistro. This place has a cozy and rustic atmosphere with a roaring log fire, pool table, and TV, and it’s a great place to grab lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, or just a drink or two to wind down in the evening. If wine and cheese are your thing, make sure you book one of the nightly wine and cheese tastings, which showcase some of the best gourmets produce Tasmania has to offer.

Conclusion

Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is a luxurious retreat situated on the doorstep of one of the finest National Parks in Tasmania.
