Blog

This is a review of Business Class in a Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) in China. In a nutshell, departure was on time, the cabin layout was well-designed, the cabin crew was good, and the seats were excellent.

The Boeing 777-300ER  is Cathay Pacific’s flagship aircraft. Upon boarding, I walked through the stunning First Class cabin (6 seats) and an intimate Business Class “mini”-cabin (8 seats) before reaching my seat in the main Business Class cabin (45 seats). Behind that cabin are the Premium Economy Class (34 seats) and Economy Class cabin (182 seats).

The herringbone 1-2-1 layout in Business Class means that all seats have direct aisle access and reasonable privacy. The seats to the side are angled toward the window (about two windows per seat). The seats in the middle are angled toward each other. This layout is great for privacy, so even if you’re traveling alone and end up in the middle seat, you will hardly notice the person in the adjacent seat.

The Best Business Class Seat on Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific was a pioneer in developing Business Class seats, and much thought has gone into the design of their seats. They are simply the most comfortable Business Class seats around now, so much so that they merit a separate article. See our review on the best business class seats on Cathay Pacific’s B777-300ER.

Amenity Kit Review In Business Class On Cathay Pacific’s B777-300
This was a short flight (3 hours), so no amenity kit was provided. I did receive a pillow, though.

Food Review In Business Class On Cathay Pacific

Before takeoff, there were welcome drinks: orange juice, water, or a sunrise-hued drink.  A hot towel was also offered. The only meal provided was breakfast, which was served immediately after takeoff. It was made up of a bread basket, fresh fruit, yogurt, and three choices of entrees: Poached egg with spinach and hollandaise sauce, pork sausage, back bacon, potatoes, and baked tomatoes, or Dim sums: asparagus dumpling, seafood, and Kung Choi dumpling, beef meatball, vegetarian glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf, or Halibut with bean curd sheets, mushrooms braised noodles. I had the poached egg, which was pleasant but nothing special.

Entertainment Review In Business Class On Cathay Pacific

Each Business Class seat on Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER has a 15-inch (38 cm) TV screen. There were 100 movies, 500 TV shows, CDs, radio channels, and games in 9 languages with noise-canceling headphones. The entertainment control panel also includes a Multi-port Connector that lets you connect your own electronic devices and stream audio and video to your private TV.
