Which is the best Hyatt hotel in Hawaii for earning or spending your World Of Hyatt points? Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort vs. Grand Hyatt Kauai vs. Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa vs. Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa vs. Hyatt Centric and Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach?

  • Best For Views: Hana-Maui Resort and Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa Ocean View Rooms (pictured above)
  • Best For Beach: Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa and the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
  • Best For Pools: Grand Hyatt Kauai followed by the Hyatt Regency Maui. Hana-Maui Resort also has a stunning pool
  • Best For Families: Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Hyatt Regency Maui
  • Best For Couples & Honeymoon: Andaz Maui and Hana-Maui Resort (why not combine the two?)
  • Best For Club Lounge: Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Hyatt Regency Maui
  • Best For Nightlife: Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa
  • Worst For Beach: Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa, Hyatt Centric, and Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach, as none of these hotels, sit directly on the beach. Equally, the Grand Hyatt Kauai has a small rocky beach which is not great

Best Hyatt In Maui

There are numerous Hyatt hotels in Hawaii. Of these, three main Hyatt hotels are on the island of Maui, Andaz Maui, which sits in the luxurious and peaceful Wailea Resort, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, which connects to the Hyatt Residence Club Maui on Kāʻanapali Beach and Hana-Maui Resort nestled along the famed Road to Hana—a 64-mile stretch of picturesque road that winds along Maui’s northern coast.

The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa tends to be your cheapest redemption option on Maui. However, it is not one of the cheapest Hyatts Hawaii.

Hyatt Residence Club Maui, Kāʻanapali Beach, is condos, are larger, and these condos sit in the same location as the cheaper Hyatt Regency Maui Resort. If you have a family, the condo option might work out cheaper for you overall, as you may be able to share the same room.

Each hotel has an individual set of advantages. The hotel you choose depends on what sort of vacation you want. The Andaz sits in possibly the most luxurious resort area on Hawaii, Wailea. While this is a huge advantage if you are looking for serene beaches and sophisticated and expensive dining. If you are looking for action, nightlife, and cheap eats, the Kāʻanapali Beach area of the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort may well be a better choice. It really depends on what you are looking for.

Another advantage of the Andaz Maui is that it is in the same resort area as the Four Seasons Maui, one of the best Four Seasons in Hawaii. Even though you are staying at the Andaz, you can use many of the facilities at the Four Seasons during your stay in the resort area of Wailea. In particular, you can spend evenings in the bar and restaurants at the Four Seasons Maui whilst staying at the Andaz, which makes a nice change of scene. Wolfgang Puck’s Spago in the Four Seasons Resort Maui is one of the best restaurants on the Hawaiian islands.

While the Andaz pool area is sophisticated for couples and honeymooners, the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa offers more fun for kids and families. The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa also offers the best views of any of the Hyatt hotels in Hawaii with the Oceanfront rooms with Lanai.

The Maui Andaz and Maui Regency resorts on Maui both have better swimmable beaches than the Grand Hyatt Kauai and more private beach areas than your options in Waikiki. Both of these hotels sit right on their own patch of wonderful beaches. If you are going to Hawaii for the beach, you need to pick one of the two Maui Hyatts.

Hana-Maui Resort is a particularly stunning resort and can easily be combined with another one of the Hyatt hotels in Maui. Because of its location on the lush Northern Coastline, it is an entirely different experience from Maui’s other hotels. Hana-Maui Resort is located in Hana town, where guests will find a blend of aloha spirit and coastal charm. This secluded luxury oasis offers travelers a beautiful place to escape on Hawaii’s eastern coast, with proximity to renowned beaches, tropical forests and waterfalls, and the majestic Pacific Ocean.

Overall, throughout the Hawaiian Islands, if you want the most bang for your points and a luxury resort in paradise, your best pick is the Hyatt Regency Maui, as it is the cheapest luxury Hyatt in Hawaii in points and sits on a gorgeous beach. The Hyatt Regency on Maui is also one of the few hotels on Maui with a club lounge.

Best Hyatt In Waikiki, Oahu

Conversely, none of the Waikiki Hyatt options sits right on the beach. All three are a short walk from the beach. The advantage of staying in Waikiki is that you have the two cheapest Hyatts in Hawaii here. The Hyatt Centric vs. Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach, so if you want to stay in Hawaii for the least points or the least $$$, these are your best two picks.

Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach is a great option. The hotel itself is stylish, with modern rooms that have plenty of space, a gym, and a decked pool area. It sits near shops and is an 8-minute walk from Waikiki Beach. It currently charges a daily resort fee of $37.94 USD per night, and rates start at around $200 USD per night plus the resort fee. The other disadvantage of the hotel, other than being away from the beach, is that it is very difficult to redeem World of Hyatt points here. We checked a number of different dates up to a year in advance and could not redeem our points here.

Another good choice is Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach which has stunning city views, a small pool area flanked with loungers, and free towels. Rooms have king-sized beds with an extended living area and a sofa bed ideal for families.

In terms of location, this Hyatt is slightly away from the main action of Waikiki towards Diamond head. It is a short walk from the beach, a few blocks back, but most importantly, this is the cheapest Hyatt in Hawaii at just 12,000 World Of Hyatt points per night and a much cheaper resort fee or “daily Destination Fee” of $21.00 USD. Expect to pay in the region of $200 USD per night.

Your third option on Waikiki beach is the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa at 2424 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu. The daily Resort Fee here is expensive at $42 USD plus tax per night, which will be added to your rate.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa feature in our best club lounges in Waikiki and the lounge is one of the best features of this property and has an international feel. This is a huge advantage for Globalist World Of Hyatt members as they get free access to this lounge, but all World of Hyatt Members can book a club room to access this lounge.

The lounge breakfast offers a nice selection of pastries, a charcuterie of meats and cheeses, along with fruit, including strawberries and melon, salads, salmon, and miso. If you are still hungry, there is toast and loads of fresh buns with a variety of jams and spreads.

Although this breakfast is not a patch of what you would expect from somewhere like the Four Seasons hotels, it still offers a fresh and expansive free buffet to fill you up in the morning.

During the day, soft drinks are available from a fridge, including Pepsi and cans of other soft fizzy drinks like Schweppes. Plus, you can pick up yogurts, and there are loads of fruit juices but no bottled water to take away.

The evening food and beverage offering includes, once again, a charcuterie of meats and cheeses, along with cold salad items and soups. You can enjoy this food from the early evening, with desserts available later. I can quite easily munch my way through strips of cucumber, celery, carrots, peppers, and dips to keep me going, but to be honest, you may feel you still want to eat out after finishing in the lounge.

Interestingly, drinks containing alcohol are at extra cost, with beer coming in at around four dollars, a glass of wine at five dollars, and cocktails at six dollars. This is typical for a Hyatt regency lounge in America, although, in Europe and Asia, alcohol tends to be free within Hyatt club lounges. If you are still hungry, there are plenty of eateries on the doorstep, including things like Subway and McDonald’s, a few steps away to fill you up.

There is no kids club at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, and, for me, the rather concrete pool area and the fact that you are across the road from the beach rather than being on the beach means that this Hyatt Regency is not the best hotel in Waikiki but it is one of the few hotels with a club lounge on Waikiki, so it is worth considering. However, the two Hyatts on Maui and the Hyatt on Kauai are much better Hyatt hotels. They are proper resorts, and both are on the beach. This Hyatt is more of a city hotel and consequently is not such a relaxing place to beach or to bring kids.

If you are redeeming points, a King Bedroom with a Waikiki City View costs 20,000 World Of Hyatt points per night or 27,000 points if you want club lounge access included too. This is cheaper than the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa at 25,000 points per night, the Andaz Maui at 30,000 points per night, or the Grand Hyatt Kauai, which costs 25,000 World Of Hyatt points per night on redemption.

Best Hyatt on Kauai

There is only one Hyatt option in Kauai, and that is the Grand Hyatt Kauai which offers a superb pool and amazing grounds and is one of the best of all the Hyatts in Hawaii. The only problem with this resort is that it has one of the worst beaches. That said, the pool complex is so good that you never need to go to the beach, and this hotel has a high number of repeat guests of the brilliant pool. This hotel has a more laid-back and relaxed (quiet) atmosphere and also offers a club lounge.

The Andaz and Regency on Maui both have better swimmable beaches than the Grand Hyatt Kauai. But the pool complex is so much better at the Grand Hyatt Kauai.

Maui vs. Kauai vs. Waikiki

Don’t make me choose! All are wonderful. All these Hyatt hotels are completely different. Maui offers sophisticated and fun resort areas in the sun. Hyatt Regency Maui Resort is on Kaanapali beach, which is much larger and longer than the coves of Wailea, where the Andaz is situated.

Both are beautiful beaches. While Kanaapali has black rock and lots of shops and dining (Whaler’s village), it’s more crowded than the more private and upscale Wailea, where you have hotels like the Four Seasons Maui. You have a sophisticated and sedate luxury open-air shopping center within the Wailea complex, but the nightlife is very much resort-based.

Kauai offers an individual resort and the possibility of driving to Hanalei bay which has to be the closest you will get to the “Jurassic Park” movie scenery of all the islands. Waikiki has all the fun and cheap eats of a big city that is edged by a beautiful beach. Pick the island based on the type of experience you want. Kauai for peace and quiet, Maui for more action in a resort environment. Waikiki for nightlife, fun, and cheap eats.

Andaz and Regency Maui both have better swimmable beaches than GH Kauai. But the pool complex is better at the Grand Hyatt Kauai. Waikiki has a golden sand beach, but the beach is quite busy and thin in places, and none of the Hyatts in Waikiki actually sit on the beach.

They are all different and all wonderful. Maybe the answer is to try all three islands?
