The top 6 most unique places to stay in Phuket include Keemala Phuket, The Pavilions Phuket, Banyan Tree Phuket, Amanpuri Phuket, Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, COMO Point Yamu Resort, Layan Residences by Anantara, Rosewood Phuket, Six Senses Yao Noi and Trisara.

Phuket has beautiful sandy beaches and a lush jungle backdrop. This stunning rainforested, mountainous island sits in the Andaman Sea and enjoys some of Thailand’s most popular beaches situated along the clear waters of the western shore.

We have picked the top 6 most unique places to stay in Phuket, which combine stunning sunsets with Asian adventure and hospitality.

1. Keemala Phuket

Keemala Phuket is a gorgeous hotel and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of The World, nestled amidst lush flora on the rainforest encrusted hills of Phuket, overlooking Kamala Village and the Andaman Sea. It screams romance. Candlelit dinners happen in intimate dining pods next to a cascading waterfall. Private villas, set in the treetops (just look at the picture above) offer huge four-poster beds, outdoor bathtubs, and private lap pools.

All rooms overlook the rainforest, mountains, and the Andaman Sea, and if you get fed up with the romance of being on honeymoon, you can relax with other equally blessed guests by the resort’s main freeform pool and Jacuzzi, which is flanked by sun loungers. Alternatively, you can embrace the Thai culture and philosophies with one of their unique activities including spa treatments, holistic programs and gastronomic delights.

Keemala is just a 3-minutes shuttle from Kamala Beach and not far from the liveliness of Patong Beach, but it feels a world away. In fact, this luxury resort is often compared to Avatar’s Pandora and the Shire from Lord of the Rings. It is utterly and completely unique.

When you just need some time out and to indulge yourself body and soul, check into The Pavilions Phuket; sensational views, an award-winning spa, the largest outdoor pool in Phuket, and the kind of luxury that makes you feel instantly calm and content.

2. The Pavilions Phuket

For the largest pool on Phuket, look no further than The Pavilions Phuket which is perched high above Layan Beach on Phuket. Here you can enjoy amazing views of the ocean; the sunrise and sunsets are just incredible from this vantage point. The resort has an air of privacy, space, and calm. The abundance of tropical greenery and the heavenly views are really all you need here, but the resort itself is beautiful too; contemporary with beautiful Asian art to remind you exactly where you are.

The pool is not just the largest in Phuket but is a stunningly beautiful area with a tiered garden and of course those magnificent views. You can enjoy cocktails and snacks here and it’s the place to be at the weekends with BBQ events.

Rooms have private terraces and you can take an occasional dip in your private infinity pool to cool off or take the shuttle service to Layan beach or maybe try something completely unique like elephant trekking through the rainforests or exploring sea caves by canoe.

The Spa & Pool Pavilion is our favorite, partly because it’s so secluded that it’s accessed by a cable-driven funicular and partly because as well as your infinity pool, you have the pleasure of a private spa and steam room.

3. Banyan Tree Phuket

Banyan Tree Phuket is deeply romantic and has some of the best pool villas in Thailand. The unique feature here is the design. The style looks like a Thai village with luxurious all-pool villas overlooking the tranquil saltwater lagoon and surrounded by lush greenery. The resort’s stunning villas feature an open-air bath and a private sundeck with a jet pool or private swimming pool.

Located on the shores of Bang Tao Bay in the northwest of Phuket island in Southern Thailand, Banyan Tree Phuket is just a 20-minute drive from Phuket International Airport and a 25-minute drive from Phuket town. It is part of Laguna Phuket, which consists of five luxury hotels, six palm-fringed lagoons, 600 acres of parkland, three kilometers of pristine beach, and an outstanding array of recreational and dining facilities.

4. Amanpuri Phuket

It is no secret that we love Aman Hotels. You can read here about my trip to Aman Grand Canale Venice. Amanpuri Phuket is another completely unique Aman hotel, but this Aman is tucked away in Surin beach, alongside the holiday homes of the rich and famous on Phuket. The beach can only be reached via the hotel or by boat, keeping it almost completely private.

A towering Thai pavilion sits at the Amanpuri’s center, fringed by lush jungle and facing onto a vast black-tiled swimming pool with a glorious view of the Andaman Sea. A stone staircase leads to Pansea beach, a rustic-chic restaurant, more swimming pools, a watersports center, and tennis courts. An excellent spa is tucked away on the other side of the resort, overlooking Bang Tao beach.

Amanpuri’s rooms exude Thai elegance in their own unique way. Garden pavilions are secluded, with a walled garden, sunken bath, and outdoor shower, ideal for private dips in your own plunge pool. Pavilions 103 and 105 have the most striking sea views.

5. Six Senses Yao Noi

Six Senses Yao Noi, Phuket is one of the most luxurious resorts in Asia with a price tag to match. 56 pool villas will appeal to your inner child. They feel like you are staying in a luxury treehouse much like the gorgeous Keemala above.

Perched on a cliffside, with jaw-dropping views over Phang Nga Bay’s fantastical limestone pinnacles, these rustic villas with palm leaf roofs provide generous personal space and utter luxury.

Also on offer is a superb Six Senses Spa. Having tried a few treatments at the Six Senses in Puente Romano in Marbella, I can vouch that Six Senses offers some of the best Spa treatments in the world. Expect an amazing experience and gongs!

Laze by the infinity pool, which is so perfect that you feel you might swim right off the edge. Eat at the split-level dining room, which is surrounded by natural vegetation and a waterfall, drink on a daybed in the main house, stay as long as your honeymoon lasts.

6. COMO Point Yamu Resort

COMO Point Yamu Resort is a luxury resort located at the tip of Cape Yamu overlooking the Andaman Sea and the dramatic limestone pinnacles of Phang Nga Bay. Interiors by Italian designer Paola Navone offer a unique expression of contemporary Thai luxury. Facilities include a COMO Shambhala wellness retreat and two world-class restaurants for Thai and Italian cuisine.

What makes this hotel unique is the modern design on the clifftop. There’s nowhere quite like it! The Verandah Pool Suites each have a four-poster bed, a living room, a verandah with comfy loungers, and a private aqua-tiled infinity pool, where you can watch the sunrise.

The impressive 100m main infinity pool has sun loungers overlooking Phang Nga Bay; lie back and enjoy the fruity icy poles that are regularly brought to guests. The pool is perched by La Sirena restaurant, where you can order lunch to your sunbed.

The cliffside location of this hotel means spectacular Andaman Sea views, perfect for unique Instagram-worthy honeymoon photos, but this hotel does not have direct access to a private beach. However, the resort does have a private COMO Beach Club, 40 minutes by complimentary boat shuttle from the hotel.
