Book A Hotel

Which are the best Marriott Bonvoy & the best luxury hotels in Barcelona, Spain? There’s plenty of choice within the Marriott brand, including top brands like the Luxury Collection, EDITION, St Regis, W Hotels, and JW Marriott, as well as mid-range brands like their Autograph Collection, Renaissance, Sheraton, Le Meridien, Design Hotels, and their Westin collections.

Barcelona is a beachside city on the North East Coast of Spain, not far from France, and bordering the Mediterranean. It is famous for its culture, architecture, world-class dining scene, the Camp Nou stadium, and the Barça football team. One of the main achievements of the city was the hosting of the Olympic games in 1992, which has made it one of the main tourist attractions of Spain.

Interestingly, many of the best hotels are part of the Marriott hotel brand, although the very best is the Mandarin Oriental. There is a Ritz-Carlton but no Park Hyatt hotel in Barcelona, although there is a Hotel SOFIA Barcelona in the Unbound Collection by Hyatt. There is also no Four Seasons in Barcelona, but if you are heading to a Four Seasons, we have investigated Four Seasons Rewards and why Four Seasons does not have a Loyalty program. If you are searching for a hotel with an executive lounge, we have outlined the best hotels in Barcelona with a club lounge.

1. Hotel Arts Barcelona, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel

Hotel Arts Barcelona, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel is one of the few luxury hotels in Barcelona which is nest to the beach, but unlike the W Barcelona, it doesn’t have direct beach access.

The nearest metro station is 10 minute walk away and from there you can connect to a tram which takes you nearer to the hotel if you don’t fancy the walk. The hotel is actually located in the city’s Olympic Village area (and is home to a Frank Gehry sculpture). The attraction of this hotel is, of course, the beach plus the two excellent pools.

Renowned the world over for its impeccable service and lavish accommodations, the stunning 44 storey Hotel Arts Barcelona, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, offers panoramic sea or city views from each of its 483 guestrooms, suites, and 28 duplex penthouses. The latter is located on the top floors of the hotel and offers butler service and the use of a MINI Cooper.

The rooms are great here, with particularly lovely bathrooms with Asprey toiletries (top suites have Bulgari), a bath, and a very large shower. Interestingly, some of the rooms are looking up at the beach at the W-hotel, which is in a similar location to the Hotel Arts Barcelona, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Both are good choices in Barcelona, although only one has a club lounge.

The Ritz-Carlton does have a reputation for running excellent club lounges. You need to book a room with executive club lounge access to get executive floor privileges on the 33rd floor with a triple-height ceiling and great views across the marina and coastline. The club provides complimentary breakfast, tea service, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts.

The disadvantage of this hotel, much like the W-Barcelona, is the location, on the edge of the city center and not within the history and action of the city or the crowds near La Ramblas. The advantage is that it is next to the beach and has a club lounge, super pools, spa, gym, etc., plus the two Michelin-starred restaurants and the classy bar.

2. W Barcelona

Designed by world-renowned architect Ricardo Bofill, W Barcelona is one of the trendiest places to stay in Barcelona. Located on the beachfront along the famous Barceloneta boardwalk. Check into one of 473 fabulous guest rooms & suites boasting panoramic views over the Mediterranean and the city of Barcelona.

La Barra is an incredible seafood restaurant within the hotel by renowned Chef Carles Abellan, awarded with 1 Michelin Star. It opened at W Barcelona in May 2019, after relocating from Paseo de Joan Borbó in the Barcelona District. Get glamorous on this 26th-floor hotspot, the Eclipse rooftop bar, from London-based nightlife gurus Ignite Group or make your way down to the signature Living Room for a cocktail (or two).

Sip on the sand. With an a la carte terrace restaurant and a relaxed beach club, whether you’re a guest or a local, SALT has your seaside needs completely covered. Whether sipping summer cocktails with your toes in the sand and live music in the air or dining on fresh, sea-inspired Californian gastronomy on the expansive terrace.

The two-level W Spa has everything you need to relax and get ready for whatever comes next, or simply take a dip in the outdoor pool on the Barcelona shoreline, just steps from the beach. The private cabanas and deck lounge chairs are the perfect accompaniment, whatever the requirement. With plush signature W towels, fresh fruit, beverages, chilled towels, W Spa sun care necessities, personal VIP services, and complimentary wireless high-speed Internet access, you won’t have to bring a thing. The W Barcelona is a Marriott Bonvoy Category 7 property costing 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

The flavors of Spain come alive in the restaurants and bars of the hotel, which include a dazzling rooftop bar, bespoke cocktail bar, an enticing supper club, and signature restaurant. Stretch your muscles in the outdoor pool and the gym or frolic on the city beaches, just steps away. The wonders of Barcelona are all around you, including the Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, Gaudí buildings, and Barcelona Cathedral. The Barcelona EDITION is a Marriott Bonvoy Category 7 property costing 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

4. Cotton House Hotel Autograph Collection

The Cotton House Hotel Autograph Collection is a Marriott Bonvoy Category 7 property costing 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night and is located in the former headquarters of the Association of Cotton House Manufacturers.

The iconic building is in every way representative of the XIX century, a period that has marked the spirit and culture of Barcelona. This boutique hotel has 83 elegant and comfortable rooms, of which five are spacious suites.

The entrance of the emblematic building is a beautiful vestibule covered in mirrors, followed by a hall that then gives access to two stairways: one, a grand marble staircase, and the other, a spiral staircase built in the ’50s that received much acclamation among experts in architecture.

The old noble areas of the building contain an elegant library, several great rooms and lounges where the bar and restaurant are located, a luminous glass conservatory, and a 300 sqm terrace with lush vegetation. On the sixth floor, there is a serene exterior pool, a small gym, and a massage room.

5. Le Meridien Barcelona

Other Marriott Bonvoy and Starwood hotels in Barcelona include Le Meridien Barcelona, which is a good choice in central Barcelona and you are looking for a cheaper Starwood or a Marriott Bonvoy hotel in Barcelona. The entrance is, in fact, on a quieter side street right off La Ramblas.

You can actually walk to the beach from this Le Meridien, which takes around 20 minutes, or you can take the Tram right to the Olympic village where you will find the Hotel Arts Barcelona, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel which is also redeemable on Marriot Bonvoy points and W-Barcelona which has a nice bar and is a very stylish place to hang out at night.

The trade-off of this good value Le Meridien is the location, as you have to take the bus, tram, or subway to some of the tourist attractions (or an uber or a cab). The public transportation system in Barcelona is, however, fantastic. Just be aware of the pickpockets and keep your valuables safe.

While it is hard to secure a free upgrade as a Platinum Marriott Bonvoy member at this hotel, you do get a fantastic free breakfast if you stay here. A full buffet is on offer. On the downside, there is no club lounge at this Le Meridien.
