Book A Hotel

We review the best executive club lounges at hotels and the best airport lounges in HGH Hangzhou, China, separately.

If you want to stay in luxury in Hangzhou, China, there are some great luxury options. The InterContinental Hangzhou is an excellent 5-star hotel in Hangzhou and is one of the city’s best luxury hotel choices. The very best hotel choice within the city is probably the Four Seasons Hangzhou, an exceptional hotel. However, this Four Seasons hotel does not have a club lounge, so it has been excluded from this listing.

Just outside Hangzhou, the “City of Heaven,” lies Amanfayun, a truly remarkable hotel ideal for the luxury traveler. While it lacks a club lounge, it may be the reason why many luxury travelers come to Hangzhou in China, so we have listed this in our number one position below, simply because it is unmissable and even though it doesn’t have a club lounge.

I have compiled a list below containing the club lounges available across luxury hotels in Hangzhou and the airport. I list the lounges that I consider to be the best of the best. I will be reviewing each of these hotel club lounges in detail so that you know what you’ll get if you book a room with club lounge access or get upgraded to a club lounge for free because of your loyalty status.

1. Amanfayun

Amanfayun does not have a club lounge, but if you are traveling to Hangzhou in China and can afford to stay in luxury, you should not miss this blissful nirvana.

Amanfayun is a secluded retreat purposefully designed to resemble a serene Chinese village and is within walking distance of five significant Buddhist temples. Surrounded by natural beauty and history in equal measure, Amanfayun is just a 20-minute drive from the center of Hangzhou and a 50-minute drive from Hangzhou Airport. The airport is serviced by both domestic and international flights, and there are direct domestic flights to most major cities in China. International flights operate daily between Hangzhou and Hong Kong, Tokyo, Macau, Taipei, and Seoul. There are also regular flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Access from Shanghai is either by car (approximately three hours) or by fast train (one hour and 20 minutes).

Amanfayun lies hidden in a valley to the west of West Lake. The 20-minute drive from the center of Hangzhou takes one along densely wooded bamboo and tree-lined avenues, past the botanical gardens and inner waterways of West Lake, to the temples and village of Tianzhu. The resort lies just beyond Tianzhu, below North Peak, and adjacent to Lingyin and Yongfu Temples.

With 42 unique guestrooms, suites, and villas tucked within the scenic tea fields and forestland. You will be blown away by the details. Many of the rooms are located in original structures dating back 100 years, yet all feature the most modern amenities, including heated floors. Traditional tea in the Tea House is a must.

The Restaurant is tucked away behind a grove of evergreens and offers picturesque views. This is the only outlet that serves Western cuisine. The menu features several classic international dishes, in essence, offering guests comfort food. The Restaurant also houses the Bar, which is suitable for informal dining.

Amanfayun’s Aman Spa consists of five separate buildings surrounded by bamboo groves, tea bushes, and Magnolia trees. The Spa offers eight treatment rooms, a reflexology room, a movement studio, a room dedicated to tai chi, yoga, meditation, and a Finishing Salon. Massage and body treatments draw from traditional Chinese massage and reflexology, as well as from ancient Asian healing therapies. The Finishing Salon provides hair spa treatments, manicures, pedicures, and waxing.

Amanfayun also features a Library with an extensive array of books and documentary DVDs focusing on the history and culture of China, organized informative talks and presentations, a meeting room with two terraces and the latest audio/visual equipment, a boutique, a Tea House, the Village Eatery for more casual dining, and broadband internet access throughout its facilities and accommodations.

2. InterContinental Hangzhou

InterContinental Hangzhou is probably the second best luxury hotel in Hangzhou after the Four Seasons, the main differentiator between these hotels is the club lounge which you will find at the InterContinental.

This InterContinental is situated in the most prestigious location in the city. Located in the center of Hangzhou’s business district, Qianjiang New Town, InterContinental Hangzhou is uniquely designed with a golden globe architecture, which makes it the city’s newest landmark. InterContinental Hangzhou is also adjacent to a station on Metro Line 4, providing easy access to West Lake, train stations, and major shopping districts. With magnificent views of the Qiantang River, Light Show, and Musical Fountain, this hotel is large, with 384 guest rooms and 6 restaurants plus a swimming pool.

Club InterContinental Rooms can access the Club Lounge at InterContinental Hangzhou, which offers a full breakfast with buffet and hot egg items and pancakes etc., to order, table service drinks, and evening complimentary alcoholic drinks and canapes. This club lounge is excellent, is open throughout the day with free drinks and snacks, and is the best club lounge in Hangzhou City.

3. JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou

JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou has a prime location in the heart of the city center. Brimming with luxury amenities, every hotel room is designed for comfort and luxury. In fact, this hotel is very similar in levels of luxury to the Marriott Hangzhou Qianjiang. Both are excellent, and the JW is only marginally better. With the metro so close to both properties, getting to and from almost anywhere in the city is a simple task.

Four restaurants include a signature steakhouse, plus you can enjoy a heated pool and an advanced fitness center. Thanks to almost 20,000 ft² of versatile venue space and a stately grand ballroom, this hotel is also an ideal destination for business meetings and social events in downtown Hangzhou.

The JW is overlooking iconic West Lake. The stylish Executive Lounge boasts spectacular city views of downtown Hangzhou, China. It serves a full breakfast, snacks, and refreshments throughout the day, cocktails, and light meals in the evenings.

The JW Executive Lounge is very good, with an excellent chef and great staff. The food is tasty and fills you up at both breakfast and dinner. This club lounge is slightly better than the club lounge at the Hangzhou Marriott Hotel Qianjiang, reviewed below.

Gold and Platinum Marriott Bonvoy Elites get free access to the executive club lounge at this hotel, which has a decent breakfast buffet and an evening happy hour with food that includes around 5 hot dishes, plus appetizers, sandwiches, desserts, and free drinks. This is not the best club lounge in Hangzhou, but if you cannot book into the InterContinental, this is probably your fourth-best club lounge choice in Hangzhou.

This hotel is currently a Marriott Bonvoy Rewards Category 4 hotel.

6. Courtyard Hangzhou Qianjiang

If you book the Courtyard Hangzhou Qianjiang, it is about half the cost of the JW Marriott in both cash and Marriott Bonvoy points. It does have an executive club concierge lounge, and breakfast can be served in the lounge, as well as evening canapes. There have not been enough reviews online to report on the quality of this club lounge, but if the price is a factor to consider when choosing where to stay in Hangzhou, Courtyard Hangzhou, Qianjiang has to be the best choice for a cheap club lounge in Hangzhou.

7. Hilton Hangzhou Xiaoshan

Hilton Hangzhou Xiaoshan is ideally located just 25 minutes from Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport and the city center, respectively. This contemporary hotel offers easy access to all major locations in Xiaoshan and Binjiang. The Sofitel Hangzhou West Lake is located on the corner of Westlake Avenue and Nanshan Road, only a stone’s throw away from the famous lake. Sofitel Hangzhou West Lake is surrounded by restaurants, shops, and bars.

For fans of top-tier local and Cantonese food, the Yongjinge Chinese Restaurant serves an excellent set menu. Particularly noteworthy is the “Monk Jumps Over the Wall” soup, a chef-recommended specialty.
