If the rumours are true, American hasn’t ruled out giving customers free internet on their planes. In fact, if competitors offer free Internet, it sounds like American will follow suit.
JetBlue has already added free internet, Southwest, Delta, and Alaska have introduced free inflight messaging. Delta has even been trialling FULL free inflight internet.
American Airlines Robert Isom told employees in October that while American currently charges for Wi-Fi they are conscious of the marketplace and will “make sure we do the right thing.”
Gary from View From The Wing says it’s only a matter of time. He stuck a line in the sand in 2012 and said inflight internet would be free “within 10 years“.
