  • Best for family pools: St Regis Saadiyat Island
  • Best for adults only pool: St Regis Saadiyat Island
  • Most stylish rooms: Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal
  • Best beach: St Regis Saadiyat Island
  • Best overall for families: St Regis Saadiyat Island for the pool

1. St Regis Saadiyat Island

The St Regis is a beautiful hotel and a much more resort-style hotel than the new St Regis on the Corniche in the Centre of Abu Dhabi. St Regis Saadiyat Island is situated just up the same beach from the Park Hyatt. It is probably Starwood’s (and Marriott Bonvoy’s) most luxury property in Abu Dhabi but is also usually the most expensive.

The advantage of the St Regis is its better pools. There’s an adults-only pool, which at weekends is a godsend if you aren’t keen on noisy, unruly kids. The main pool can get packed with children, but it is good for fun and splashing and is perfect for families. There is even a great pool for toddlers, with large parts of it, ankle-to-knee deep, plus this hotel has decent dining options and a good Middle Eastern beach.

The rooms at St Regis Saadiyat Island are of a good size with a balcony. The long white private beach is an absolute highlight, with padded cabanas and loungers under umbrellas set up and a drinks service. It is as good a beach as any in the UAE and feels miles from the rest of the world. Just be aware that it gets a bit rocky as you get to the sea.

Overall, this resort is relaxing and definitely very child-friendly and attracts lots of families. They have a kids club and a kids’ area set up for the Friday brunch in the restaurant. The Sandcastle Club is great for kids up to about 10, with a fun pool area and excellent kid’s entertainers.

The St Regis Saadiyat Island is one of the best Marriott Bonvoy properties in UAE, with the exception of Al Maha, so if you are earning or redeeming these points, this is a great choice.

This luxury St Regis Saadiyat Island costs 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night if you are redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points, which is 15,000 more than the St Regis Abu Dhabi below, which comes in at 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. In our opinion, the cheaper St Regis Abu Dhabi offers sufficient levels of luxury and also has a very good pool area and beach, so for point redemption value, the more urban St Regis Abu Dhabi is the one to choose.

2. St Regis Abu Dhabi

St Regis Abu Dhabi is very tall and very grand with white pillars everywhere and incredible views. It is a great choice as long as you don’t mind being high up!

Located at the heart of the Abu Dhabi Corniche, the hotel is directly connected to Nation Galleria Mall and is just minutes from Marina Mall and the sophisticated World Trade Center. It is also in the close vicinity of many of the embassies, oil and gas companies, and other business institutions in the city.

The grand lobby has two enormous marble staircases leading upwards, decked in gold carpet, and winding around towards each other underneath a collection of chandeliers. One thing to note is that the view from guest rooms can be quite urban, overlooking the city of Abu Dhabi. Bathrooms are a mass of white marble and mirrors, as you would expect, and are impressive.

This more urban St Regis is also located on a beautiful beach and has an impressive pool area (but the Saadiyat hotel has the better pool complex of the two).

This luxury St Regis Abu Dhabi costs 35,000 points per night if you are redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points.

3. The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal

The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi has one of the best club lounges in Abu Dhabi. It is a regal property with sparkling chandeliers, its own patch of private beach, and breathtaking views to the Grand Mosque, make the The Ritz-Carlton a great luxury hotel choice in Abu Dhabi. It also has impressive common areas, a fantastic pool with lovely lawns leading down to a gorgeous beach, making it ideal for families, particularly if you want to earn or redeem Marriott Bonvoy points. This luxury Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal costs 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night as it is a category 4 property.

As meals at any of the restaurants and bars at The Ritz-Carlton are expensive, club access offers excellent value for money, particularly as this club lounge is excellent with a fantastic view. Club Level rooms also offer even more magnificent views of the Grand Canal, stately gardens, or breathtaking Grand Mosque as you step onto your secluded balcony overlooking our luxury resort inspired by the 15th to 17th century Renaissance architecture and the urban planning of the city of Venice.

4. Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi

Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi boasts panoramic Arabic Gulf views and features a revolving rooftop restaurant and an outdoor pool set in a landscaped garden. The beach and pool area are the highlights of this hotel, along with the interesting sculptures in the lobby.

All rooms at Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi are decorated in warm tones and have a view of the Gulf or the city. In terms of location, Marina Mall is 5.6 miles away, while Abu Dhabi Mall is 1.9 miles away from Le Royal Meridien. Abu Dhabi Golf Club is 14.3 miles away.

The Royal Club lounge is a great place to eat and have a drink. Soft drinks, coffee, and snacks are served all day long.

This luxury Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi costs 22,500 Marriott Bonvoy points per night which is more than the Le Méridien Abu Dhabi on the Corniche, which comes in at 17,500 points per night.

5. The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa

At 25,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa is situated on Abu Dhabi’s premier golf course and is the only true golf resort in the capital.

We like the fact that it is close to the city but in a quiet location. We also love the floor-to-ceiling windows in the rooms, giving them a great outlook over the course. As one of the most luxurious golf resort experiences in the Middle East and home to the HSBC Golf Championship over the last 10 years, this 27-hole championship course weaves through undulating terrain featuring pockets of palms, ornamental trees, and shrubs, as well as seven spectacular saltwater lakes.

The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa is also home to a wide selection of restaurants & bars. It also features the Heavenly Spa, three Swimming Pools & the Westin workout room.

6. Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort

At 25,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, this is a solid Sheraton on the famous Corniche in the heart of the city, the main shopping and commercial districts are within walking distance, and the international airport is easily accessible from the hotel. It has quite small rooms with sophisticated décor. There is a spa, 2 outdoor swimming pools, surrounded by tropical trees, a children’s slide, and a pool bar, plus it’s right by the beach.

Other options include the Marriott Executive Apartments Downtown Abu Dhabi, the Marriott Hotel Downtown, Abu Dhabi, with a spa, restaurants, a rooftop pool, and elegant event venues, which costs from 17,500 Marriott Bonvoy points first night, The Abu Dhabi EDITION on the marina with innovative dining, a spa, outdoor pools, and a gym and costing 35,000 to 32,500 points first night, Courtyard World Trade Center, Abu Dhabi which is one of your cheapest redemption options at 12,500 points per night with sleek rooms, meeting spaces, and a rooftop pool. Your other cheap point redemption (or paid rate) option in Abu Dhabi is Aloft Abu Dhabi which is located between the town center and the airport and also comes in at 12,500 points per night. There is also Marriott Hotel Al Forsan, Abu Dhabi, at 25,000 points, and Yas Hotel Abu Dhabi on Yas Island Abu Dhabi, at 25,000 per night.
