Brian Sumers interviewed American Airlines Vice President, Planning Vasu Raja and says American is considering flying to Africa and India. He says that American could do this “once a second batch of Boeing 787 orders starts arriving next year.” In fact, Raja says they’re going to go to India and Africa.

And yet, Vasu Raja already explained why American Airlines will NOT fly to India last summer! What’s going on? Gary from View From The Wing explains better than me here. What we can deduce from this announcement is that American Airlines lacks coherent plans, which might explain why so many loyal flyers to American are jumping ship.

Many travel bloggers have a love-hate relationship with American Airlines. On the one hand, it is convenient with a decent international Business and First Class product. On the other hand, American’s constant effort to save money means that its domestic product keeps going downhill with densified cabins, thin foam seats and a general lack of love. Add to this, the conflicting plans outlined above and you can see how flyers might be confused about where they might fly to and the routes that might use their AAdvantage miles on.

American Airlines: Flyers Hate

The densified American Airlines domestic product which has less legroom than ever before.
The lack of communication about delays when compared to other airlines.

American Airlines: Flyers Like

Their consistently good high-speed internet, American and Delta being light years ahead of United.
Their route network as they are often more convenient.
Their airport lounges. American lounges are open to transcon business class customers as well as elites flying internationally and mid-tier partner elites flying domestically. United’s Polaris lounges are better than American’s Flagship Lounges, from food to design, but are only available to long haul Business Class customers.

We have detailed two travel bloggers below who argue the case to fly with American Airlines and to NEVER fly on American Airlines. You can make your own decision:
