Southwest Airlines Flies To Hawaii & Why You Can’t Book Tickets!

News

Southwest Airlines first flight arrived in Hawaii this week and you can see the pictures of the plane on Hawaiian soil on The Points Guy.

Why Do I Care?

When the flights launch officially and can take passengers, Southwest will offer one of the cheapest ways to fly to Hawaii, largely because of its companion pass which you can get hold of easily for just one more week. More on how to quickly snag one of these so that your partner can fly free to Hawaii here.

Why Were There No Passengers On This Plane?

Southwest will not begin selling Hawaii tickets until all the ETOPS steps have been successfully completed. The ETOPS steps will prove to the FAA that Southwest can fly its twin-engine Boeing 737s over the Pacific Ocean for an extended period of time without a diversion airport available within a certain distance. Once they have ETOPS authorization, they can start selling tickets. The Points Guy predicts that this will be sometime in very late March or April.
