Weird Planes! Why Boeing’s Incredible New Plane Has Crazily Long Wings

Related: Boeing

Boeing Co unveiled launched a new concept plane on Tuesday aimed at sharply reducing fuel use thanks to its elongated ultra-light wings. The wings look odd, being so long, but this Transonic Truss-Braced Wing aircraft with its 170-foot (52 meter) wingspan ideally reduces fuel burn by 60 percent according to Boeing compared to an aircraft produced in 2005.

If you are worried about these crazily long wings coming off, find out why aeroplane wings are highly unlikely to snap off!

Chicago-based Boeing said that their modified wing sweep will allow it to fly at speeds of Mach .8, or about 600 miles (965 km) per hour, similar to current passenger jetliners.
