United Passengers Told Not To Urinate Or Defecate On Transatlantic Flight

News

I am not very keen on going to the toilet on the plane. I find the cubicle too tiny and I feel as if I am far too close to other queueing and seated passengers to feel at all private locked in such a tiny space.

This closeness makes me very uncomfortable using plane toilets at all, but needs must and when I can’t hold it, I do use the facilities.

This month, the toilets weren’t working properly on a United Airlines plane due to fly from Edinburgh to Newark, New York. The problem was that neither would flush and mechanics couldn’t fix them within their allotted hour of maintenance work.

So What Happened?

The captain decided to allow the plane to be boarded and then he spoke personally to each of the Business Class passengers before announcing to the Economy Class passengers that, if they were to fly, they had to agree not to urinate or defecate in one of the bathrooms.

In the other imperfectly operating bathroom, they could perform all necessary bodily functions.

The alternative was to wait another day for another plane or for the one that they were sitting in was properly fixed.

Passengers were given the opportunity to vote on whether they should fly or not, and the majority decided to fly regardless of the restricted access.

I can’t blame them. I hate delays and once you are at the airport, you want to get going, at almost any cost. Find out the full story from Chris Matyszcyk here.
