Travel Chaos: Gatwick Drone Related Closure As Thousands Of Christmases Are Ruined

Tens of thousands of passengers have been facing severe disruption at Gatwick airport. Britain’s second-largest airport has had to close temporarily after drones were spotted over the runway.

The good news is that Police arrested two people late Friday related to the drone disruption, according to Sussex Police Superintendent James Collis.

This has been a nightmare situation for those flying home or away for their Christmas. This is easily the worst time to have your holiday plans ruined and my heart goes out to those stuck at the airport.

Many have been sleeping on the floor at the airport since Wednesday, hoping that their flight will go out or return from far-flung corners of the world.

With tens of thousands of people stuck, I question why Gatwick doesn’t have the technology to deal with this problem.

If you are flying in and out of Gatwick anytime soon, expect continued delays and check flight information before leaving home. The only positive spin that I can put on this situation is that if you read my article about how to get free airport lounge access in Gatwick South and Gatwick North, then any delays will be slightly more bearable if you can get access to the relevant airport lounge.

In fact, Gatwick airport also has two of the best British Airways lounges in the world, really nice modern ones in the South Terminal. I have also written a full rundown of the best British Airways airport lounges in Gatwick so that you can pick the right one.
