Love it or loathe it, this ridiculous or totally cool plane, depending on your perspective, has been flying around the world promoting Embraer’s E2 family of regional jets trying to steal the limelight from its competitor, the Airbus A220.
Embraer’s country-hopping world tour is designed to showcase Brazilian aircraft manufacturer’s plane to clients and the public, who have been Instagramming shots of the plane around the world.
I love it! What a great and uplifting idea. If only airlines would combine livery designs like this with staff wearing my all-time favourite airline uniforms from Hainan Airlines, the world would be a more beautiful place!
The great thing about this plane is that there are no middle seats. The configuration will be 2-2, with passengers assigned to either a window or aisle. Improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions are major selling points, made possible by a new wing design.
The largest E2 customer is SkyWest, a regional airline affiliate flying for the likes of American Airlines, Delta, United and Alaska Airlines.
With larger overhead bins, more spacious cabins, no bad seats and that “new airplane smell”, flying on US regional jets will once again become a joy… when they launch. Sadly it will be 2021 before the first US E175-E2 planes are delivered to America.
