Book A Stay

When choosing a safari holiday, there’s something rather exclusive and special about private reserves. Check out the beautiful Ditholo Lodge located on a private game reserve in Bela-Bela, South Africa.

Location

The Ditholo Lodge is set in the malaria-free Ditholo Wildlife Estate in the heart of the Limpopo. The area is easily accessible from both Johannesburg and Pretoria. The lodge is surrounded by over 1,100 hectares of stunning wilderness, which is home to more than 250 species of birds and is endorsed by BirdLife South Africa™. You share the site with a waterhole that is also home to a resident family of hippos; from the safety of the lodge, your view is quite spectacular.

Best Time To Visit

South Africa is one of those tremendous all-year-round destinations. The summers here are hot and humid and run from November to March so April to December may be your best bet.

How To Get There

International guests will probably want to fly into O.R Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. Direct flights from London to Johannesburg take 11 hours or it’s 14.5 hours from New York. From the airport, it is then less than a 2-and-a-half-hour drive to the Lodge.

Style & Character

Ditholo Wildlife Estate has active breeding and conservation programs for buffalo, sable, and nyala and is a fully accredited member of the Wildlife Ranching Association of South Africa. The character of the Ditholo Lodge is so much about your surroundings. Still, the lodge itself is charming and seems entirely at home in the bush and yet is beautifully, luxuriously rustic. It is a very safe environment, and children are welcomed and tend to adore the place!

Service & Facilities

Your days here are spent on Game Drives, Game Walks, Bicycle Trails, and Tree Trails. All designed to get you close to nature and give you a glimpse or more of your wildlife neighbors. You can also fish at three distinct natural waterways on a strictly catch and release basis, and it’s a birdwatchers’ paradise here, with an elevated viewing deck and a thatched blind overlooking the water features to allow you to catch the best views.

Inevitably, while most of your time will be spent taking in everything the African Bush has to offer when you just need some downtime, the Lodge definitely delivers. Stretch out on a chez lounger tucked under an umbrella beside the swimming pool, or if your muscles ache after a long bushwalk, head to the Bakwena Express Spa, and partake in a traditional African spa experience with the stunning Waterberg Mountain as a backdrop.

The hospitality is exceptional, and the welcome warm. They offer a personalized service and are determined to give you the very best experience for you.

Rooms

For your accommodation, choose between a Standard Room, Deluxe Suite, or Family Suite. All are adorned with those lovely hints of safari and are well equipped with all the amenities you would expect, including air conditioning. The Deluxe Suites have that bit more space and a King Bed, so would get my vote but the Family Suites are ideal if there are four of you and include two separate ensuite bedrooms.

Food & Drink

The restaurant and bar on site are perfectly designed to fit into the landscape and offer a stunning environment for you to soak up while you eat and drink. The Lakeside Bar and Deck, boasts a wonderfully-relaxing four-sided log fireplace that is surrounded by a comfortable lounge area with a stunning cocktail deck alongside; the ideal spot for your pre-dinner drink and after-dinner nightcap. The Kudu Restaurant is housed in a traditional thatch building with vaulted wood ceilings; admire the wrap-around views while you tuck into the authentic bush dining menu. Saturday nights are special here too; the lodge features an Outdoor African Boma where you can enjoy a traditional African Boma Dinner experience under the stars; unforgettable.

We love this hotel because it offers a unique and intimate way to experience the African wilderness.
