Finding “The One” in perfume is a near-impossible task. Heavier winter scents hang uncomfortably in the air once the sun comes out. Yet so many summer fragrances smell too sweet or don’t last. I have therefore done a bunch of research and have come up with 4 amazing summer scents for women (and one for men), which will fragrance your fore-arm with a suitably summery scent, one that will keep you sniffing and make you go “Ahh”.
Acqua Di Parma
First up is Acqua Di Parma, the ultra-luxury fragrance brand that offers up a variety of fragrances that tick all the boxes. My favourite is Rosa Noble, a subtle rose scent. It smells like a flowerbed in the Mediterranean on a dewy summer morning, and although there is definitely a hint of rose, I get an almost herbal scent on my arm. They say that the fragrance is “inspired by the most beautiful flowers of exclusive and private Italian gardens… using precious ingredients… Iris, Magnolia, Gelsomino and the new Rosa Nobile”. Bottom line, this scent lasts and is just beautiful!
There is another summery fragrance in the Acqua Di Parma range; Acqua Di Parma Peonia Noble. Described as the flower of the gods, this scent offers a refreshing, slightly fruity opening with an intense flowery heart. The flowers highlighted include peony, sunny geranium, delicate Turkish rose and fresh freesia. Add to this, tones of amber and woody patchouli and musk and you have a lovely feminine fragrance perfect for the summer
For something completely different, I want to suggest a scent that represents the heady days of luxury travel in the early 1900’s. For some reason, this scent is how I imagine the most luxurious rooms on transatlantic ships like the Titanic smelled. These vessels represented the romance of travel, as does Penhaligon’s Savoy Steam. This scent was created exclusively for The Savoy hotel in London and it seems to transport your nose into the past (in a good way!). It smells sophisticated and expensive, mixing Eucalyptus and Rosemary, which reproduce the aromatic freshness of revitalizing ointments, while Bergamot and Lemon Primo ore recall the sensation of a traditional cologne friction. White Cedar and Fir Balsam diffuse their warm resinous notes with the help of warm incense. Buy this scent from Penhaligons.
My final choice is Orange & Bergamot Eau de Toilette by Molton Brown. This scent transports me to a sun-splashed Orange grove. It is light and refreshing, not too citrusy and 100% summery. Honestly, if you are stuck in London but want to transport your senses from your tube carriage to endless Californian orange groves, this scent takes you there, and a rejig of the ingredients means that it now lasts really well too. Absolutely love this one.
For your other half, IMHO, the best men’s fragrance in the world (I know that’s a tall order but this one is SO good) is Molton Brown’s Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold. The aroma is rich, velvety and luxurious. I urge you to pop into your nearest Molton Brown shop or to try it in Duty-Free next time next time you are passing through an airport. Or just take my word for it! This really is the men’s scent that you have been looking for!
So those are my summer scents. If you are looking to evoke a Meditteranean garden go for Acqua Di Parma. For Californian orange groves, it’s Molton Brown and for the sophistication of luxury travel, pick Penhaligon’s Savoy Steam.
