Companion Reviews

North Yorkshire is quintessentially English; stunning countryside, grand stately homes and beautiful towns draw its many visitors. Stay in luxury in the heart of the county at the rather divine The Vicarage.

The Vicarage lies nestled in the small village of Nidd right in the heart of the triangle formed by Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough. This tranquil rural location puts you just 5 miles from the spa town of Harrogate or head in the opposite direction towards moors, dales and the great outdoors. The wildlife of Yorkshire comes to you here and it’s not uncommon to have pheasant and partridge meandering right past your door; which seems all the more fabulous when you consider how near you are to the towns of the area!

Style & Character

The Vicarage dates from 1679 and used to serve the neighbouring church. The guest rooms are located in the former mews building next to the main house. The rooms themselves are classic but contemporary and very stylish. The owners are passionate travellers themselves and each room has been painstakingly designed incorporating elements, furnishings and ideas from around the world.

Service & Facilities

It’s a real home from home experience to stay here. Each room has its own entrance and you are free to come and go as you please. This gives you so much freedom while at the same time not sacrificing any of the comforts. You can check in yourself and have breakfast at any time you choose from your in-room pantry; but more on that later! There is also onsite parking for all the rooms, luggage, lockup bike and secure gun storage is available, as well as a laundry service.

There are just three brand new ensuite guest rooms here named; Oak, Ash and Yew. For some outside space, stay in Oak which has its own courtyard with a barbecue and outdoor seating area. For a little more space inside, Ash is the largest of the rooms or for the best in wildlife spotting, opt for Yew. All the rooms enjoy lovely views of the paddock and church.

The room facilities rival what you would expect in a fine hotel; a kingside bed with the finest Egyptian cotton bed linens, luxury Vossen dressing gowns; luxury fluffy towels and toiletries from the fruity ‘Be Different’ range. They also have excellent tech for a B&B; unlimited superfast wifi; Samsung Full HD Smart TV with numerous streaming options including free Netflix and USB charging ports. The extra little touches continue in the ensuite shower room where there’s an anti-mist mirror, a sensor night light and a wonderful rainforest shower.

Food & Drink

Your in-room pantry is lavishly stocked so you can create a delicious breakfast at a time to suit you and can dine in peace at the table in your room. The pantry includes eggs, crumpets, charcuterie, cheese, as well as Taylor’s of Harrogate tea selection and a Nespresso coffee machine. Everything for a great start to the day and enough for an evening snack too!

This area is a foodie’s dream; fine dining with the stars to match in glorious country locations. Top tips from your hosts; try proper Yorkshire fish and chips at Oliver’s in Harrogate and the finest pork pies known to man from Appleton’s in Ripon!
