Transport : Airport Lounges

Before my flight on Qatar Airways in Business Class on their A380 Doha to London Heathrow, I visited and reviewed the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Class Lounge at Doha airport.

Qatar Airways is part of the One World Alliance. The lounge is quite difficult to locate; look for an escalator with a member of staff at the bottom who will check your boarding card.

The lounge is vast, about the size of two football pitches and is clearly one of the best Business Class airport lounges in the world. There is a water feature at the entrance, about 20×40 yards, it’s huge (see photo in scroller above) and gives the place a calming atmosphere, with tiny jets of water which move around in the pool. There is also a huge chandelier which seems to rise from the pool to the lounge upper level with a spiral staircase curving around it.

This lounge is utterly luxurious, spacious, spotless, and private with groups of high back rattan chairs which remove you from everyone else. The lounge is divided into many small areas with self-service cold drinks and hot beverages scattered around the lounge.

There is a restaurant at the far end for a sandwich or snack plus numerous helpful staff who materialise when you need them, but never impose themselves.

I told one attendant how wonderful I thought everything was and he said “Madam, you should see the First Class lounge, this is nothing!!”. We have, of course, also reviewed the Qatar First Class lounge at Doha airport so that you can see what you are missing.

The restrooms are immaculate with fresh orchids and there were also sleep pods and computer areas. Truly a super experience when you are tired, between flights.

This kind of Business Class experience is out of reach of your average traveller. That said, we share how a free flight or upgrade is achievable with a bit of effort. Have a read of our 10 tips to upgrade your next flight free to find out how you can experience luxury in the sky.
