A designer boutique hideaway in the wonderful Siem Reap in Cambodia is my idea of heaven. Siem Reap is better known at the gorgeous cultural town that serves as the gateway to the spectacular, must-visit UNESCO site of the ancient Angkor temples.
Location
The hotel is perfectly placed, in the heart of Siem Reap but is in the tranquil and leafy French Quarter so still serves as a wonderful oasis when visiting the region. You are a 10-minute stroll from the Old Market area and just a 15-minute taxi (or preferably tuk-tuk, more authentic and much more fun!) ride to the entrance to Angkor.
Style & Character
The interior is achingly stylish; modern-Cambodian with lots of arty touches. The property was created by acclaimed architect Bill Bensley and artwork is displayed throughout the hotel showcasing images of Angkor.
Service & Facilities
The best way to see the dazzling temples of Angkor has got to be on a tailored tour with the hotel. Then when you return after a hot day exploring, the hotel is a delightful haven of relaxation. You can enjoy a cool swim in the large and beautiful pool, savour an aromatherapy massage at the luxe Shinta Mani Spa leaving refreshed and restored, or simply relax on a sofa at the sophisticated pool bar with a signature Icy Green Ginger cocktail.
The resort is proud of its culture of ‘Open Doors, Open Hearts’. This culture underlines their commitment to responsible tourism and they are passionate supporters of those less fortunate in their community. The service here is exceptional, you really feel like they have time to make your stay a good one and are efficient, welcoming and warm.
Rooms
Choose from 39 contemporary, Khmer-inspired rooms; you can either stay poolside where it’s just a short stroll to the swimming pool or can stay higher up and have a pool or garden view. All the rooms have either a balcony or a large veranda. The Deluxe Rooms are slightly more standard but the Superior Rooms are perfect for luxury travel; personally, I’d opt for the Superior Poolside Room so you are literally footsteps from the heavenly lap pool.
Food & Drink
Dine at one of five restaurants and bars and feast on international comfort food, colourful Khmer street food and even steak. All the establishments use only the freshest local, imported and organic ingredients, prepared at their prime, to satisfy even the most avid gourmet. The restaurants more than compete with surrounding alternatives and are very reasonably priced accordingly. You can even partake in swing-seat dining at streetside Kroya restaurant to be just that little bit more fabulous.
