With the unification of the Starwood & Marriott reward programs, now might be the perfect time to take out a Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) rewards card before there is any reduction in the welcome bonus. Doctor of Credit reports a rumour that the welcome bonus for this card will be changing imminently, and this may happen as soon as today. Of note: Unification information suggests that the points themselves will not be devaluing, so this may be the last chance to get a really valuable signup bonus for this card.
The Starwood Preferred Guest UK American Express Credit Card offers a free bonus of 11,000 SPG points (but costs £75/anum) and the US Starwood Amex Card offers a huge 25,000 bonus Starpoints with NO cost in year 1. Drop me an email for a referral link to each card.
It is worth noting that it is worth spending $75K on the US SPG consumer card before August (of you can!) because, in August, a new ultra-premium SPG card will be available: Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Luxury Card. One of the features of the luxury card is Platinum status with $75K spend and the spend on your consumer card will apparently carry over to the luxury card. By spending $75 you will get 3X Marriott points per dollar (as one SPG = 3 Marriott) AND you’ll get Platinum status for the rest of 2018, all of 2019, and possibly through Feb 2020.
