The world’s largest cruise ship took 3 years to build by Royal Caribbean and has just set sail from Barcelona, on its inaugural voyage. But what is it really like on-board? Heaven or hell?
The Good The Bad & The Ugly
Symphony of the Seas has some incredible features which are hard not to be impressed by. It has the tallest waterslide at sea, more artwork than the Louvre has paintings, although I am sure the value of the artwork is more moderate and less interesting but quite useful is the fastest Internet at sea.
It is huge at 1,188 feet long with 22 restaurants, 24 pools and 2,759 cabins. Hard to imagine. The ship houses up to 6,680 guests plus 2,200 crew. The ship is split into”Neighborhoods” ranging from a leafy Central Park with more than 20,000 tropical plants, to Splashaway Bay, a water park is packed with families. As I said, Heaven or Hell depending on which way you look at it.
Beyond this, there ie glow-in-the-dark laser tag, a rock climbing wall, surf simulators, a nine-deck-high zip line and finally the tallest water slide on any cruise ship which has a 10-story drop. Activites are also arranged, from aquatic shows to light and musical acrobatics.
If you want to get on board quick, you can catch it in the Med this summer before it heads over to Florida and the Caribbean
I suppose a good word to describe this ship is extraordinary. You cannot argue with the almost never-ending range of activities and facilities for families. For my son, a trip on this ship would almost definitely be heaven. For me… when I travel, I like to travel to a destination. A place that I will love, immerse myself in and yearn for when I leave. This cruise ship is more about what’s onboard than it’s routing. This ship IS the destination. So no, it is not quite my cup of tea, but then again, the world would be a less interesting place if we all liked the same thing.
