Read on for our top 10 spots to camp luxuriously in the English Countryside.
1. Glampotel Bere Regis, Dorset
For a heavenly dose of the Dorset countryside and all the benefits of being close to nature without sacrificing any luxury, check into Glampotel Bere Regis. The site is located a beautiful stroll away from the village of Bere Regis. It backs onto ancient Dorset woodland with over 300 acres of heathland (a Site of Special Scientific Interest, or SSSI) accessed directly from the property. Glampotel Bere Regis is part of Glampotel, the world’s first true eco-tourism glamping “Hotel” chain! Glampotel combines the best of camping under canvas with the luxuries of a boutique hotel. Their amazingly appointed Canvas Cottages boast hardwood floors, handmade wooden furniture, luxury linens, and an ensuite bathroom; you could be forgiven for thinking you are in a hotel until you realize that the walls and ceiling are made of canvas! There are six Canvas Cottages on this site; choose your spot from a pretty, secluded glade, which is part sunny, part shady – ideal if you’re here for a quiet romantic getaway or the Pond Field; a sunny spot with countryside views next to the pitched tents of the adjoining campsite, perfect if you’re bringing the family.
2. Camp Kátur Glamping Village, North Yorkshire
Camp Kátur Glamping Village in North Yorkshire is a beautiful spot that offers something a little extra too. A huge array of adventure activities keep you occupied, including woodland walks and activity trails, cycle routes, football, golf, football net, basketball, netball, and equestrian activities. The camp is located at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, between Ripon and Bedale, and lies just 1.5 miles from the A1. The glamping village itself is set in the stunning 250-acre Camp Hill Manor Estate within breathtaking meadow and woodland. This is genuine off-grid living, so there’s no electricity, they do have solar power, and there is hot water, but the main source of lighting is a torch and candlelight, and the heating comes from log burning stoves and gas heaters; eco-friendly AND very romantic. Choose your accommodation from Safari Tents, Teepees, Bell Tents, Hobbit Pods, Geodomes, Unidomes, and a 1980’s Retro Caravan named ‘Betty’ or ‘Squirrel Lodge’ – an upcycled, cozy cabin. If you fancy self-catering, there’s a Communal Kitchen Hut and a BBQ Grill Cabin as well as a large clay pizza oven, plus you have your own BBQ; there’s a convenience store on camp for supplies.
3. The Glamping Orchard, The Cotswolds
The Glamping Orchard offers classy glamping in the heart of the picturesque Severn Vale. Situated in Longney, five miles from historic Gloucester, the site can be reached by car in under two and a half hours from London, the convenience of the Cotswolds being just one of its heavenly things. The boutique site is beautifully small, consisting of a stunning renovated 1950s Caravan: The Warwick Knight and a beautiful bell tent: Belle. There is a fire pit which doubles up very nicely as a BBQ or, of course, you can use your kitchenette, so you can cook a meal while you relax in the gorgeous Cotswolds countryside. The site is set on a family-run smallholding, so you are surrounded by animals, acres of orchards, and of course, the rolling countryside.
4. Longberry Farm Glamping, Kent
Longberry Farm Glamping offers luxury glamping accommodation in the beautiful Kent countryside. Situated just outside the rural village of Bethersden, you are only an hour and a half from London, but you’ll feel a whole world away with the tranquil landscape surrounding you. The site is an intimate, friendly, and family-run. There are three 5m Bell Tents and a modern, sparkling clean washroom outside the tents, with hot showers, toilets, and washing-up sinks – there are even baby changing facilities! The décor is enchanting. You could be in a country cottage; with beautiful soft furnishing and vintage-style accessories. The tents include complimentary wood along with gas BBQs, perfect for nights spent snuggled outside your tent around the campfire.
5. North Star Club, Yorkshire
Inspired by the legendary American Great Camps, North Star Club blends seamlessly into 500 acres of native Yorkshire Wolds woodland. Amazing, considering you are less than three and a half hours from central London. There are five individually designed Woodland Suites, each with its own unique inspiration taken from Yorkshire’s artists and historical figures. Each luxurious suite features a cozy sitting room, a large bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a second bedroom with bunk beds, plus a spacious spa-style bathroom. One of the best things about your oversized bathroom is that it allows plenty of room to have in-Suite treatments from the camp’s Elemis-trained therapist! This is not designed to be a self-catering experience, with the range and quality of food on your doorstep there would be little point, and it might interfere with your relaxation! The owners can, however, arrange for a BBQ pack or food hamper to be delivered to your suite.
6. Netherby Woodland Yurt, Cumbria
Netherby Woodland Yurt in Cumbria is tucked away on the England-Scotland border in a stunning woodland location that literally takes your breath away. Your yurt accommodation features a double bed for two guests as well as two futons for children. Your own private cabin is a short minutes’ walk through the woods, and this provides you with a very well-equipped modern bathroom and kitchen. A BBQ is also provided so you can cook outside, but if you wish to eat indoors, as well as a microwave, fridge, dishwasher, and cooker, the private cabin includes a table and chairs. There is lots to explore in the area, and are very well-mapped woodland trails across the estate which offer views of the beautiful rolling hills of the Scottish Borders.
7. Longlands, Devon
Set on the beautiful Longlands Farm in Combe Martin in a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the North Devon coast, you’ll find Longlands Glamping. Here there are five luxurious Safari Lodges with wood-burning stoves and private showers, a larder shop, a private lake, and acres of grounds to play in and discover. The Safari Lodges are a thing of beauty in themselves; the cleverly designed timber retreats are built on stilts with canvas roofs, and much of it is open air to give you all the benefits of an outdoorsy camping experience but with the little luxuries of home. The lodges feature a rather wonderful large deck area and private BBQ platform, so you can sit back and enjoy the amazing views over the lake, valley, and down to the sea. Each Lodge has a fully equipped kitchen with its own mains supplied sink, a small cool box, and a shelf in the Larder fridge if needed.
8. Orchard Retreat, Devon
The Orchard Retreat is a family (and dog) friendly holiday site featuring three locally handcrafted yurts dotted around a large four-acre apple orchard surrounded by fields and streams tucked in the Devonshire countryside. Each yurt comfortably sleeps up to four people and features a luxury pocket-sprung double bed and a twin or double sofa bed with a private bathroom just a short stroll away. Adding to the cozy-homely feel, the yurts also have sheepskin rugs, a cafeteria coffee maker, lanterns, torches, and candles. To make you feel even more welcome, there are extra touches, including a welcome basket packed with lovely local produce like bread, milk, and wine, a complimentary basket of logs for the wood-burning stove, and even hot water bottles for chillier nights. You can self-cater on the little stove or your BBQ, and the retreat also has a communal fire pit, great for a sociable evening of drinks and eats around the fire.
9. Browning Bros, Essex
Browning Bros is a luxury glamping retreat located in rural Essex. Set between an apple orchard and 20 acres of woodland. The site is situated on the grounds of Tey Brook Farm in the Colne Valley, six miles from Colchester. Stay in luxury bell tents, tipis, or yurts, and there’s also the option of a night in a refurbished grain silo with a skylight so that you can see the stars from your bed. There is even a romantic shepherd’s hut with a small wood burner and a snug double bed, ideal for cooler nights. Spend your days fishing (you can hire rods) and exploring the unspoiled countryside. In the evening, light up a fire with unlimited firewood, melt marshmallows, or cook up a charcoaled feast. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor dining areas as well as a covered outdoor kitchen for slightly less exciting self-catering.
