Book A Vacation

Everybody likes a freebie and there are some incredible hotels and resorts in Hawaii that you can stay at for free on points or rewards. This is our pick of the three best choices. Wailea Beach Resort: Marriott®, Maui

This lovely hotel is in the upmarket resort of Wailea, probably the nicest location on Maui. The resort is a Marriott Rewards category 8 property which means 1 night costs 40,000 rewards (35,000 on pointsaver) and if you book 5 nights, you get the 5th night free at 160,000 rewards.

They Say: Wailea Beach Resort – Marriott, Maui welcomes guests with stunning views of the Pacific. Ideally located on the water’s edge, our family-friendly hotel invites guests to take advantage of a modern fitness centre, championship-level golf courses and our tranquil spa. The hotel boasts sparkling outdoor pools and the longest resort water slide in Hawaii. Every room and suite has been updated with ocean-inspired decor and includes mini-refrigerators, plush bedding and Wi-Fi. Large balconies and oversized lanai reveal stunning views, including vibrant sunsets and the occasional humpback whale.

We say: We stayed at this hotel before the refurb. The location is on a headland to the side of the main beachfront in Maui. There is a lovely walkway along the beach to the Hilton and the Four Seasons Maui. Right in front of the hotel on the headland, you will find rocks rather than the beach, but the beach is only a short walk. There are a number of pools in expansive gardens, one with a fun slide for kids.

I think this is the best Marriott hotel in Hawaii because of it’s location. The biggest advantage of this hotel is that you can eat and drink in the bars and restaurants of the Four Seasons up the road whilst paying a fraction of the price when staying at the Marriott. The biggest disadvantage is that it is beach-side rather than beach front which means it might be a stroll down the hill and across the gardens to get to the beach (and a more strenuous walk back up the hill on the way back). Remember that there is a $35 USD daily resort fee to stay at this resort on top of your points.

Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria Resort in Hawaii

This hotel is just up the beach from the Marriott Wailea and next door to the Four Seasons Maui. It has the most amazing pool with waterfalls and waterslides. It is ideally located just by the beach and if you don’t like the Polynesian style bars and restaurants in the hotel you can go next door and take advantage of the bars and restaurants at the Four Seasons Maui. This hotel costs 95,000 Hilton Honours per night and is IMHO the best Hilton branded hotel on the island. The bad news is that you will be charged a $30 USD daily resort fee on to of the points spent to stay at this resort.

Hyatt Regency Maui

The Hyatt Regency Maui is set right on Ka’anapali Beach on the west coast of Maui in Hawaii and surrounded by 40 acres of immaculately landscaped oceanfront gardens. This one is right on the beach and costs 20,000 World of Hyatt Rewards per night or 27,000 World of Hyatt Rewards for a Club room with Club Lounge + a $32 USD resort fee. The Hyatt Regency is a great value as it’s availability is pretty open for award redemptions, especially compared to the Andaz Maui, which is the more luxury hotel BUT is difficult to find award availability at this Andaz.
