Airbus Launches Flying Taxi

Sound unreal? This is no joke. Airbus’ Vahana team have successfully flown their autonomous air taxi dubbed “Alpha One”. Reaching an altitude of 16 feet and remaining in the air for 53 seconds, this futuristic marvel was flying itself.

This is all part of a plan by Airbus to “democratize personal flight” and uses machine vision and electric propulsion to create a single-passenger electric vertical-take-off-and-landing (VTOL) self-piloted vehicle.

The company’s goal is to build an autonomous passenger drone network, much like a taxi service. They remain some way off commercialising this particular vehicle. For now, we will instead have to drive between A & B using a taxi service like Blacklane, who are currently offering a free $25 (£25/25€/$25) towards a taxi transfer for a limited time.
