If you have ever dreamed of discovering treasure, you will like this news piece. According to the BBC, a French mountain climber discovered a box of precious jewels thought to be debris from an Air India Boeing 707 crash in the Alps from 1966.
The find included sapphires, emeralds and rubies worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The metal case was marked “Made in India” and the author of a book on the crash says the jewels may have been intended for a man living in London at the time.
This is not the first time the glacier on this mountain near Mont Blanc has delivered relics from this accident. Last year mountaineers discovered an Indian diplomatic bag that was on the plane.
The climber, who has asked to stay anonymous, handed the treasure into the authorities. Honest man! “He could have kept them but he chose to turn them in because he knew they belonged to someone who probably perished,” local police officer Sylvain Merly said.
