Review: Glampotel Bere Regis, Dorset

Accommodation : Glamping

For a heavenly dose of the Dorset countryside and all the benefits of being close to nature without sacrificing any of the luxury; check into Glampotel’s Bere Regis Canvas Cottages.

The site is located a beautiful stroll away from the village of Bere Regis and backs onto ancient Dorset woodland with over 300 acres of heathland (a Site of Special Scientific Interest, or SSSI) that is accessed direct from the property. The surrounding area is stunning, you are in the heart of Dorset; an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the stunning Purbeck Hills and beautifully scenic Jurassic Coast on your doorstep. There are many walks and cycle paths locally, ask your hosts for tips of their preferred routes and they’ll be more than happy to oblige. Don’t miss the much-photographed Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, the walled Saxon town of Wareham, the charming county town of Dorchester and the striking ruin of Corfe Castle. For family days out, there’s Monkey World and the National Tank Museum nearby or a day on the beach at Weymouth is always popular.

Style & Character

This is a chance to get back to nature and escape the craziness of day to day life but without having to slum it either! The canvas cottages are simply charming with hardwood floors and custom wooden furniture. Choose your spot from a pretty, secluded glade, which is part sunny, part shady – ideal if you’re here for a quiet romantic getaway, or the Pond Field; a sunny spot with countryside views next to the pitched tents of the adjoining campsite, perfect if you’re bringing the family.

Service & Facilities

The cottages are managed by Glampotel, the leading eco-tourism glamping hotel chain across the UK and Europe. Although we are very familiar with glamping at Luxury Travel Diary, we got excited about the idea of a glamping hotel chain which makes it so much easier to find reliable glamping sites with a standard set of facilities. The facilities in your canvas cottage are very comfortable, you have a wood burning stove, cooking facilities, there’s even a full-length mirror, the classic hotel-style safe and an ensuite bathroom; with all these, you’ll almost forget that you are almost camping! There is free parking onsite, solar power and if you can’t quite disconnect totally, complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the reception area too.

No blow-up mattresses here, you have a huge king size bed with a memory foam mattress, luxurious soft pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, pillow cases and a hypo-allergenic duvet; bliss and just what I expect when I’m on a back to nature break-luxurious style!

Food & Drink

You have a fully-equipped kitchenette with everything that you need to make a delicious outdoor meal as well as a gas-powered BBQ and a large private wooden deck with comfy chairs; the perfect place to eat and then relax together late into the evening snuggled up with cosy blankets for an extra layer of warmth. There’s a shop on the camping site as well as a shop in the local village of Bere Regis which is great for supplies and even sells freshly baked bread. For nights when you don’t fancy cooking, there are two pubs in the village both which serve food, The Drax Arms is a particular favourite.
