A British Airways plane’s engine burst into flames on Friday evening while flying from Phoenix, Arizona to London. The flight was forced to make an emergency landing as a result.

After an agonising flight circling over the desert to dump fuel, the plane returned to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport safely.

A spokesperson for BA told Mirror Online that shortly after take-off, the BA288 experienced a surge in one of its four engines. “Our flight crew are highly trained to deal with such events and shut down the engine before returning to the airport.”
