Europe Like War Zone After Heavy Snowfall

After years of mild temperatures, Europe is in the midst of a winter freeze.

More than 300 flights were cancelled at Frankfurt airport, Germany’s largest air hub, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded, Birmingham airport in the UK had all flights suspended on Sunday morning, as staff worked cleared runway in heavy snow, in France a ferry ran aground stranding more than 300 people, trains were delayed across the continent and police forces in Wales urged motorists not to travel following road blocks.

Other airport closures included Luton, 32 french regions were placed on orange alert due to winds and the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, broke records with 30 cm of snow. One frustrated traveller described the airports as “like a war zone”.

On the bright side, the unseasonably low temperatures and snow are great news for skiers who want to head up the mountain this Christmas. Here is my pick of the world’s best ski resorts where it is already snowing.
