The building is a listed former Victorian warehouse which was built in 1866. It was long neglected and desperately in need of some TLC which it found in the hands of its current owners. They have lovingly restored the building to its former glory and renovated it into a brilliant dining pub and British restaurant.

Style & Character

What truly stands out about The Albert Square Chop House is in iconic building in which it is housed. Inside the post-industrial space is stunning, with original architectural character and exposed services. You enter downstairs into a separate bar area with comfortable sofas and chairs. The main restaurant is upstairs; sit back and watch Chef Carl Fraenkl-Rietti prepare your meal in the open kitchen, there are cosy booths and tables and any size of party can be accommodated. There is even an entire floor dedicated to functions; this would make a truly memorable venue for an event and is somewhere that little bit different for a business lunch. They also host beautiful weddings in the exclusive Memorial Hall and have their own wedding planner to ensure your big day passes without a hitch.

Service

The hospitality is flawless; friendly, welcoming and attentive. The service in the function rooms is first-class too, they really ensure that your event runs perfectly. Top tip, let the sommelier recommend you a bottle of wine to match your chosen dishes, he is quite excellent and you’ll get the perfect combination.

History

Chop houses are a fabulous British tradition dating back hundreds of years, when businessmen discussed the deals of the day over plates of traditionally cooked meats washed down with fine wines and good ales. This tradition lives on today in The Albert Square Chop House. It is an independent local business which is owned by local chop house enthusiasts who also own the very popular Mr Thomas’s and Sam’s Chop Houses.

Food & Drink

The cuisine served is the very best of Classic British food with a modern twist. The very freshest local ingredients are used to create wonderfully hearty meals. Think huge plates of tender British meat and perfectly cooked veggies; traditional British comfort food served with style. Try the exquisite Corned Beef Hash Cake starter and for main courses, you can’t go wrong with a steak but the Steak & Kidney Pie is much recommended too; purists will be pleased that it’s made and cooked exactly how it should be. It’s not even just lunch and dinner either, they are open for a sensational traditional English breakfast as well!
And as for drinks; the wine list is infamous; the cocktails are a little bit legendary in Manchester (try the Cosmopolitan!) and there is an exceptional range of quality cask-conditioned ales (including their very own Sam’s Special Bitter).
