As modern life gets busier, more stressful and at times recently, even downright bizarre, the need to take some time away from civilisation and get back to nature is huge. There’s something very special about sleeping under the stars; soaking up the gorgeous scenery, spotting wildlife together and totally slowing the pace. I wholeheartedly believe that sleeping under the stars need not be a back to basics experience but rather that a luxury expectation can be maintained; the answer of course is glamping! And who better to take you glamping than the leading eco-tourism glamping hotel chain across the UK and Europe; Glampotel.
This wonderful concept of a glamping hotel chain is a world first, and regular readers know how much we love new travel trends here at Luxury Travel Diary! Glampotel is a part of the Godiva Leisure Group, a global lifestyle company founded by entrepreneur Paul Woolnough. The company combine the ethos of sleeping under the stars with all those luxuries that we rely on so heavily in a boutique hotel. All their properties are unique and run by independent, carefully selected partners; there are currently 9 locations but more are being added all the time so keep an eye out. Their locations vary from Dorset to Scotland to France but all are stunning, picturesque regions, offer an exceptional glamping experience and are genuinely eco-friendly.
Accommodation at a Glampotel location is an amazingly appointed Canvas Cottage. They feel more like chic hotel rooms but the walls and roof are made of canvas! Inside they are romantic and surprisingly well equipped; with laminate wood floors, handmade custom wooden furniture, a king size bed with memory foam mattress, luxury Egyptian cotton linens, soft pillows and hypo-allergenic duvet, a wood burning stove, cooking facilities, there’s even a full-length mirror, the classic hotel-style safe and an ensuite bathroom!
A classic example of a Glampotel site is the Glampotel Brandy House Farm in the village of Felindre, Powys in Mid Wales. You’ll find Powys, between Knighton and Newtown on the border of Shropshire and the historic county of Radnorshire. The local area is ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding and your hosts can point you in the right direction whatever mode you wish to use and whatever direction you wish to take.
The four beautiful Canvas Cottages are located in a large secluded field with picture perfect views of the rolling hills and open countryside. There is free parking on site at Brandy House Farm. And rather excitingly, there’s no mobile phone reception, on a back to nature trip, the last thing you want is to be able to take calls from the office or even worse, check the latest gossip on Facebook; this ensures that you really do switch off and switch on to time with your love ones and revelling in the stunning Welsh countryside. Your cottage comes with a large private wooden deck; solar lighting, a patio heater and a selection of cosy blankets ensure that you can make the most of snuggling up and chilling out here late into the evenings all year round.
Food & Drink
Self-catering is certainly an option and you have everything you need to prepare a delicious outdoor meal; all the usual pots, pans and crockery, as well as a solar or propane powered refrigerator and a gas-powered BBQ. Breakfast can be provided which I’d definitely recommend; this is a holiday after all! For when you wish to dine out, there are a fabulous selection of Welsh pubs along the valley, the nearest being a pleasant 2-mile stroll down the road.
