I was honoured to be chosen to nominate my choice of hotels for the category of Best Historic Hotels in North America on USA today. These hotels were selected by myself and seven other travel experts, and I wanted to share my only nomination in this category, as well as giving my own readers the chance to vote for their favourite historic hotel out of those nominated.
My pick was the Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki on Oahu. The Royal Hawaiian is a Honolulu landmark and has been for nearly 90 years, thanks in part to its pink colour. It has been featured in a number of movies and TV series including one of my favourites, Mad Men and is a luxury enclave between the towers on Waikiki beach.
Once a favoured retreat for Hawaiian Royalty, it is here where they bathed in the healing waters of Waikiki and spent their days in the shade of the niu (coconut trees.)
Have your say. See all the nominations and have your say by casting your ballot on USA Today once per day until Wednesday, August 2 at noon ET. The 10 winning resorts, determined by your vote, will be announced on Friday, August 4.
Other 10 best categories you can vote in include:
The best destination resort in the USA.
The 10 best hotel pools in the USA.
The best hotel bar in the USA.
The best health and wellness resorts in the USA.
