Review: Marbella Resort – An Oasis in Sharjah, UAE

Accommodation : Hotels

Name: Marbella Resort

Location: United Arab Emirates

Dubai’s lesser-known neighbouring emirate, Sharjah, is a great choice to gain a deeper insight into historic Islamic culture, it’s also got a reputation as being family friendly. For an intimate, villa location here, rich in dining, activity and fitness facilities, check out the Marbella Resort.

The resort is centrally located on the picturesque Khaled Lagoon, with both Dubai and Sharjah Airports being a short 20-minute drive away. If you fly into Sharjah from London, your only option is connecting flights, whereas if you fly direct to Dubai your flight time is under 7 hours and you’ll be by the pool before you know it!

Style & Character

The resort offers a secluded and intimate ambience designed in the Arab Andalusia style of architecture. There is a Mediterranean feel to the place, perhaps because it sprawls so elegantly across the 50 villas and it’s surprisingly green with pretty gardens. The view across the waterfront is stunning and you really feel as if you are perfectly situated in Sharjah.

Service & Facilities

The sports and recreational facilities are first class and include an outdoor temperature controlled swimming pool, two flood-lit tennis courts, two air-conditioned squash courts, a fully equipped state-of-the-art gymnasium, with sauna, steam room and chill shower. Other facilities include free parking, car rental service, currency exchange, 24-hour room service, same day dry cleaning and laundry services, daily free shuttle service to Dubai, marina and boat mooring facility, outdoor catering, doctor on call 24 hours, secretarial service and tourist/transit visa arrangement with airport pick-up. The service seems to be designed to make you feel totally at home, everyone seems happy to be working here which I always take as a very good sign and certainly helps the atmosphere.

The resort is a complex of 50 villas, you can take the full villa or just a Master or Junior suite (each villa has one of each). Luxurious and spacious they offer a separate lounge area with sofa and TV with satellite channels, ensuite bathroom with luxury bathroom amenities, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, safe, mini bar and tea and coffee making facilities. The Junior suite has a queen bed whereas the Master has a king-sized bed, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and a dining area. The full villa is perfect for 4 adults and 4 children and gives you that bit more privacy as well as your own garden with a gazebo.

Food & Drink

There is a choice of dining options at the resort; these include an authentic a la carte Italian restaurant, the only one of its kind in Sharjah; Caesar’s Palace, with an atmosphere to match the cuisine! Café Undici is an Italian coffee shop serving a buffet breakfast, coffees and cakes throughout the day and an a la carte option for dinner. The Cascade Pool Bar offers light snacks and refreshments from its fabulous pool-side location. If you wish to venture outside of the hotel, there’s a great selection of dining options along the Corniche.
