Indulge yourself with a stay in the beautiful Le Clos de Ligré Guest House in the Loire Valley in France, an elegant bed and breakfast set in an 1852 residence.

Location

The guest house is situated in the quiet village of Ligré, 5 kms south of Chinon, Touraine in the Loire Valley, France. You are a three hour drive from Paris or two hours from Nantes, Tours Val de Loire Airport is less than an hour away and direct flights from London with Ryanair take under an hour and a half. There is lots to do in this delightful area, on your doorstep are the King Valley castles, abbeys, fortresses, vineyards and wineries and you are near to the cities of Tours, Azay le Rideau, Langeais, Richelieu, Saumur and Chinon.

Style & Character

This is a real character property; formerly a gentleman farmer’s house it is full of original features and of course, a dose of French chic. Terracotta-sponged walls, beamed ceilings, original tiled floors and stone fireplaces sit nicely alongside colourful modern fabrics.

Service & Facilities

The property includes vast, sunny private gardens enclosed by walls and an outdoor salted swimming pool 10 metres x 4 metres; the sun loungers which line the pool provide the perfect place to relax after a busy day sightseeing locally. There is a courtyard, private parking and complimentary Wi-Fi. In the elegant, traditional sitting room there is a baby grand piano, even if you don’t play yourself, one of the other guests often does and your hosts love to encourage their guests to try out the piano. There is also a card table and a selection of books to borrow. Martine (the owner) is charming and extremely hospitable. She is happy to furnish you with local information and share tips for exploring.

Rooms

​There are five guest bedrooms, all are spacious and light and have been recently renovated and are now attractive traditional rooms but with modern comforts. Each room has its own individual style and character: La Treille has a canopied double bed and also an extra single bed and offers stunning views across the gardens; La Roseraie Jaune benefits from the original 19th century beams and trusses and a splendid copper-framed double bed, La Roseraie Rouge is a huge room with a king-sized bed and those amazing views, Le Pressoir has two connecting rooms with twin beds and single beds and so would be perfect for a family of four, is also has its own entrance, and Le Pressoir is located in the old wine press room so has original stone walls, it also has its own entrance as well as a canopied queen-sized bed. There is also a studio, perfect for 2, that can be rented on a self-catering basis as well as a 2-bed house suitable for 4 people.

Food & Drink

Delicious French buffet breakfasts are served either in the garden on the breakfast room depending on the weather. Your hosts are fans of entertaining and so you can expect traditional homemade French three course dinners served with style and with delectable local wines to accompany the food. Candlelit dinners take place in the family dining room with its open fireplace during winter months and outside in the gardens shaded by the old lime tree in the summer.
