Tonquin Beach sits on a peninsula within Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. The scenery here is beautiful; wild and natural, made up from lakes, inlets and ancient rainforest. The sandy beaches on Vancouver Island are some of the most beautiful in North America and being more remote than those in the city of Vancouver, the hidden beaches on Vancouver Island are less crowded. Beaches here include Cox Bay, Chesterman Beach and popular Long Beach which is part of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
The pretty town of Tofino sits on the peninsula and the Tonquin Trail, which begins at the Tofino Community Hall is a 2.6km (round trip), is a gravel trail which meanders through rainforest, offering beautiful views of Clayoquot Sound, before reaching Tonquin Beach and Third Beach.
Tonquin Beach itself is a wide sandy beach, perfect for swimming and rock pooling. It is also a great location for watching sunsets and is well worth the hike. Get there early morning if you want it all to yourself.
