Book A Hotel

For an apartment with a heavy dose of elegance, check out the Metropole in Bangkok; excellent facilities, a luxurious place to call your own while you’re away and unprecedented personalised service await you.

I think that sometimes to escape the monotony of day-to-day life, a break somewhere exotic and full of life, that throws you head first into another world is the most exciting getaway you can have! And there’s certainly nothing mundane about Bangkok; the heat, the food, the crazy nightlife, the magnificent temples and palaces, the busy markets and its sheer size are all reasons why your life back home will seem a million miles away. For somewhere luxurious to make your own on your trip, Metropole Bangkok is a collection of beautiful serviced residences in Thonglor, Bangkok. Direct flights from London to Bangkok take less than 11 and a half hours; take your pick from Thai Airways, EVA Air and British Airways. It’s then a very convenient 30-minute transfer by car to the apartments.

The Apartment Collection

Metropole Bangkok, a part of The Crest Collection which is managed by The Ascott Limited, are a collection of 116 stunning apartments. They are decorated in a wonderful combination of a classical, formal style with contemporary finishes, plush furnishings and standout lighting. The inspiration behind the interior design is Colonial architecture and the elegant Thai ‘Golden Age’.

They are situated in Thonglor, Bangkok’s well-known upmarket residential district. The Thonglor BTS Skytrain is just 10 minutes’ drive away and the area is packed with trendy dining and entertainment offerings. The service that you receive as a guest is exceptional; personal and intuitive, they also all speak excellent English. The facilities here are first-class too; you have complimentary use of the Fitness Corner, Jacuzzi and swimming pool as well as complimentary Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception and housekeeping services; you really couldn’t do better at a five-star hotel, only here you have much more space, much more freedom and the flexibility to come and go as you please. If business is the reason, or part of the reason, for your trip, you are well catered for here too; there is a designated business corner.

Inside the Apartments

For apartments, there are a choice of Studio, Deluxe Studio, Studio Executive, Studio Premier and 1-Bedroom Premier. Now, I could well be clichéd and recommend the 1-Bedroom Premier (and to be fair, with its private balcony and 67 m² size it’s tricky not to!) but the Studio Executive and Studio Premier would probably get my vote. All the apartments include plush king-sized beds, fully equipped kitchens, air-conditioning, a living and dining space, flat screen television with cable channels and an en-suite bathroom with towels and toiletries.

Restaurants & Bars

If you wish to self-cater, the apartments are well stocked and the kitchenettes include, at a minimum, a coffee machine, cooker hob & hood, electric kettle, microwave oven, mini refrigerator, toaster and crockery, cutlery & utensils. But I imagine on a break where you want to escape the ordinary, you won’t want to do a great deal of cooking! Breakfast can be provided and there is also the option of alfresco dining at the apartments own CHOW Café & Bar, but if you wish to venture out you are in the perfect location for some exquisite dining experiences. Thonglor is known for its upmarket and fashionable restaurants; Soul Food Mahanakorn and Masala Art are very popular; just don’t go home after you’ve eaten – the neighbourhood comes alive at night.

Pool & Activities

After a busy day sightseeing and soaking up the atmosphere of this fabulous city, try a different kind of soak in the apartments’ swimming pool! The pool is surrounded by lush vertical gardens, plus there’s also a sauna, gymnasium and day spa. As for that sightseeing, the list is endless and it’s worth buying a map and just wandering the streets; jumping on a boat, finding a hidden market and seeing just how much street food you can sample in one day! For more formal activities: visit the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun in the Old City, shop in Siam Square and go to Jim Thompson’s House.

There’s nothing quite like staying somewhere where grandeur and comfort are so evident; the Metropole apartments do luxury very nicely indeed and are an ideal place to stay when escaping normality in the cosmopolitan city of Bangkok.
