Name: The Floating Cabin
Location: Puerto Rico
The Floating Cabin is an over-water villa situated on the beautiful waters of La Parguera, a fishing village in the small town of Lajas, on the southwest coast of Puerto Rico. La Parguera Nature Reserve is one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in Puerto Rico; with one of the most extensive and well developed coral reefs on the island. Explore mangrove forests, salt marshes, cays, islets and seagrass beds where schools of tiny tropical fish love to play. Dolphins, manatees and turtles also love these waters, so count on having an interesting underwater experience.
Puerto Rico is the perfect destination to travel to offering diverse attractions from colourful architecture and vibrant cities, to tropical rainforest and stunning sandy beaches. As for somewhere to stay, for a real home-away-from-home experience, The Floating Cabin in La Parguera is a beautiful, vibrant vacation home that is great for a group and somehow seems typically Puerto Rican. Direct flights from London to San Juan take just over 9 hours and it’s then a very scenic and beautiful 2-hour drive across the island to the Floating Cabin.
The Floating Cabin was built 20 years ago on the beautiful waters of La Parguera, on the southwest coast of Puerto Rico. It is cosy, fun and the perfect place to enjoy sunny days and romantic evenings. The name is very apt, it literally sits right on the waters and the décor throughout has a lovely maritime feel and is vibrant and fun; you never forget where you are! The term rustic luxury fits very nicely here and it’s a lovely colourful place – the exterior is a sunny yellow. One of the loveliest things about a stay here is the nature that surrounds you; birds, iguanas, fish and crabs all meander past the cabin and it’s really quite enchanting.
The vacation rental home features 4 bedrooms, one has a queen-sized bed and a twin bed, two have full-sized bunk beds and a twin bed and one has 3 boat bunk beds which are ideal for children; basically, it’s perfect for a group of friends or a family. In addition to the bedrooms, there is a living room with sofa, TV and a large balcony with fabulous views across the waters; a well-equipped kitchen that is great for cooking up a family feast; dining area with seating for 4 people and two bathrooms with a toilet, sink and hot water shower. But really, you’ll be spending your time outside; here you’ll find a patio with a BBQ, pizza oven as a patio table and chairs and of course those views. The bedrooms are air conditioned and linens and towels are provided. There is also Wi-Fi, a TV, radio, Cable TV and a DVD Player.
Restaurants & Bars
Although the cabin is well setup for self-catering, this is a holiday and Puerto Rico’s distinct cuisine flavoured by Caribbean, African, Spanish and American influences, is just too good to miss. You are only a short stroll to the town and the Poblado Boquerón is packed with bars, restaurants and is the place to go at night; catch the live music at the weekends.
The bay itself on which The Floating Cabin sits is bioluminescent, one of only five such bays in the world and it glows by night, you can catch a perfect view from the town when out for your evening meal or there’s a glass bottom boat where you can take a tour and view this amazing natural light show. For the more active members of your group, there’s plenty of water sports available locally including; snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, paddle boarding, kiteboarding and boating. But if the golden white sand, blue skies and endless sunshine beckons, then there’s also a range of local beaches for laying back, sunbathing and forgetting your cares. If you want to explore this amazing island, head inland and take a guided tour of El Yunque Rainforest or spend a day in San Juan, one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas.
For home-from-home stay in a true island-lover’s paradise with your family or a group of friends, The Floating Cabin offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
