Ockenden Manor is a romantic, country house hotel in the South Downs, just an house’s drive from London. This charming, Elizabethan house, in the pretty village of Cuckfield, is packed full of character. Surrounding the house is nine acres of grounds, offering wonderful views across the the South Downs. Beyond the main house is a large and modern spa in a separate building.
Hotel Review
Ockenden Manor is located up a teeny tiny lane off the high street of Cuckfield in East Sussex. We drove past the main house and parked in a car park beside the impressive spa facility and overlooking the fields beyond.
Checkin was in the historic main house. We were then lead out to our room which was in the brand new spa building. The room was modern in style and offered a large open bathroom with a free standing bath. Beyond a sitting area, sliding doors opened up to your own private patio with superb views over the Downs. If you prefer a historic room you can request a character room in the main house.
Bar and Restaurant
There was an elegant drawing room and a historic small oak panelled bar for drinks. The restaurant offered views over the gardens and downs. The food in the restaurant was presented beautifully and used local ingredients. In the summer you can also take an afternoon tea or drinks out on the sun-drenched terrace in the gardens.
Spa
The contemporary spa was massively impressive and makes this hotel a “must do” for any Spa junkies. A large modern building offered a number of treatment rooms, a good sized indoor/outdoor pool, hot tub and Jacuzzi. The contemporary space was finished with lots of glass and natural materials. Outside, a decked area around the pool made the perfect sun trap for relaxing after your treatments or swim.
Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa offers the best of both worlds. Utterly modern rooms in the spa building if you prefer to be moments from the pool and want your own outdoor space, or step back in time with a historic room in the main house. Spend a night here in midsummer to sunbathe around the pool and take advantage of drinks on the terrace under the stars.
