The south west Coast Of Spain includes the Costa Calida and the Costa Blanca. The best luxury Golf resorts along this coastline include La Manga Club, Intercontinental Mar Menor Golf Resort & Spa, and further west in Alicante, Barcelo Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa
For us, La Manga Club Complex in the Cartagena area on Costa Calida is the top pick for 5 star luxury, it has such a range of facilities, that it forms its own little town in the sun. However if you decide to head further down the coast, Barcelo Asia Gardens is also worth a look.
Hotel La Manga Club Príncipe Felipe
La Manga Golf Resort (pictured) has always been Spain’s most famous sports and golfing resort, THE place to go for the discerning golf or leisure traveller. At just 30 minute’s drive south from Murcia–San Javier Airport and 60 minutes from Alicante it is easy to get to. The Principe Felipe hotel at La Manga Club is a superb, five star hotel offering beautiful bedrooms with gorgeous balconies looking out to the pool or the golf course, top class service and some great restaurant and bars.
Many celebrities take their winter or summer break here due to the excellent facilities and the great year round climate. As I write this on a grey December day, it 8 degrees in the UK but a balmy 15 degrees and sunny in the haven of La Manga. La Manga has great golf, tennis, bowls and even cricket facilities. In the summer months you can take a dip in the sea at its own beach club (reached by private shuttle). For the lover of golf there are 3 contrasting golf courses on site. Royal Club rooms are worth paying the extra for at Club Príncipe Felipe as they give you access to a VIP lounge and a chill out area with complimentary snacks, drinks and newspapers.
La Manga Club has been voted Spain’s “Best Hotel & Resort” in the inaugural Today’s Golfer Travel Awards and also “Best Family Friendly” within the European Resort Hotel category of the Sunday Times Travel Magazine Reader Awards, so we are not the only people who love this enclave in the sun.
