In Cairo, there are two Four Seasons hotels; Four Seasons Cairo Nile Plaza, and Four Seasons Cairo at The First Residence. These properties are both in Cairo and both are considered to be the best hotels in the city.
Four Seasons at The First Residence is located in Giza, sandwiched between the Nile River and the Giza Zoo, and enjoys impressive views of Cairo’s skyline and the Pyramids. Giza is a great location in terms of being near the Pyramids and zoo, but the remainder of the tourist sites (Tahrir Square, the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, Khan al-Khalili market, Zamalek) are closer to the Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza and are on the far side of the Nile. That said, the location of the Four Seasons at The First Residence has a local authenticity in the surroundings which you don’t experience in the surrounds of the Nile Plaza.
First Residence’s lobby feels boutique and charming with wonderful artwork. It is connected to “the Mall at First Residence” with upscale, shops (Rolex, Tiffany, Ferragamo, Bvlgari) and stylish people walking around.
Rooms
The rooms here feature stylish colonial décor and panoramic city or Nile views. They are equipped with a flat-screen TV, a BOSE entertainment system and a DVD player. The bathrooms are typical Four Seasons (double sink, separate toilet). In my opinion, these rooms are marginally nicer than those at the Nile Plaza.
Dining
The First Residence has two restaurants (Strada and Aura) and three lounges as well as connecting to the mall with plenty of restaurants. La Gourmandise lounge is the on-site option for breakfast and the breakfast experience is excellent with fresh-baked bread and pastries, and a mix of Asian breakfast and Western breakfast choices. Service is typically Four Seasons; the waiters and cooks know you by name and get the balance right between friendly and intrusive.
Spa & Wellness
The Spa here is good but doesn’t quite reach the offering at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza. It offers a sauna, hot tub, and fitness center all on the top floor of the building.
Pool
First Residence, like Nile Plaza, has a gorgeous outdoor pool (pictured above). Both the indoor and outdoor pools have a chic look and comfortable loungers.
Which is the best Four Seasons in Cairo?
If you’re in Cairo, why not split your time between the two Four Seasons? The Nile Plaza has the edge in terms of location and the spa is superior, the First Residence has a more boutique lobby and marginally better rooms. Both have great pools and are great hotels.
