As the winter nights draw in, there’s nothing like being reminded of your luxury beach escape and a delicious glass of Bumbu rum will do exactly that! Bumbo is the original craft rum; an ultra-premium, all natural rum that genuinely comes from the West Indies; it really conjures up the beautiful white sandy beaches and those Caribbean flavours.
Bumbo rum is made from the highest quality sugarcane produced from locally sustainable farms and blended with some of the world’s purest water and then aged in oak barrels for up to 15 years. The sugarcane is selected from eight countries throughout the West Indies: Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guyana and Honduras, and the product is crafted on the Caribbean island of Barbados in a historic distillery founded in 1893. The resulting product is a delicate, smooth brown spirit with a taste both deep and complex; including notes of coffee, cacao, cinnamon, roasted nuts and allspice with aromas of coriander, ginger, Madagascar vanilla, soft caramel and toasted oak, and tropical fruits like mango and papaya. The product is 35% ABV (70 proof); ideal for sipping or mixing.
The name Bumbu originates from Caribbean legend from the island of Barbados; or to use its other name: ‘Rum Island’. Sailors and merchants back in the 16th and 17th centuries found the traditional drinks bland and rather boring so added Caribbean fruits and spices to enhance its flavour and ‘Bumbu’ was born! Indeed, the very stylish, ultra-heavyweight bottle looks as if it could have come from a pirate’s loot! The bottle is paperless and the front bears a tarnished metal “X” and the back a map of the Caribbean but the old-fashioned, oversized cork is the style icing on the cake. This is one bottle to display at the front of your drinks cabinet; it both looks the part and has an interesting history.
Beautifully served straight up, over ice and also fantastic in a cocktail; Bumbo rum is effortlessly smooth and those lovely tropical fruit notes and gentle spice flavours take you right back to hot, sunny days spent relaxing on soft, white sands.
