Lisbon, which is both culturally and historically rich, has quietly and steadily become one of the most exciting European cities to visit. When looking for a completely authentic place to lay your head, why not live like a local in a historic apartment in Alfama, the heart of the oldest quarter of Lisbon with some of the oldest buildings in Europe. The 4-bedroom apartment I have in mind offers the perfect location to explore historical Lisbon by foot or with the notorious tram nº 28. Enjoy Lisbon’s remarkable light throughout the flat. Watch the beauty and buzz of the city from its Pombaline (“French style”) balconies that capture the evening sun. Sé Cathedral, St. Jorge’s Castle, Fado, and busy downtown (Baixa), the heart of Lisboa, are all just a stone’s throw away.
The Apartment
Decorated in a traditional Portuguese style with a modern twist, this unique 88sqm Sé Cathedral/Castelo holiday home can host up to 8 people comfortably. The holiday apartment has just been renovated, retaining its Portuguese soul, but packed with features to enable you to enjoy Lisbon at its best. Each room is unique in its design and invites you to explore historic Lisbon. During the refurbishment, the hosts kept their guests in mind and fitted this 4-bedroom apartment with 3 bathrooms, one en-suite to the king-size bedroom (160cmx200cm), one en-suite connecting to a double bedroom (140cmx190cm), and two Single Bedrooms with a shared bathroom. If you prefer a meal at home, you can enjoy the fully fitted kitchen and socialize with everyone else in the living/dining room. The living room has a great wall artwork highlighting some of Lisbon’s historic buildings and a statue of the rooster of Barcelos, the unofficial symbol of Portugal. The Pombaline balconies from two of the bedrooms and living/dining room invite you to watch Lisbon life pass by, including a view of Sé Cathedral and into the noblest part of Alfama leading up to St. George’s Castle. Part of the hallway is decorated with original Portuguese tiles “azulejos”. Free Wi-Fi and complimentary cable TV with international channels is available. All bedrooms are also fitted with USB sockets.

The apartment is equipped with a 43 inch HD Smart TV, iron and ironing board, hairdryers, baby chair & cot (upon request), coffee machine, toaster, fridge and freezer, induction hotplate, electric oven, dishwasher, washing machine, and kitchen utensils. Interaction With Guests
The host is always available to answer queries and to arrange extra services such including airport shuttle, car parking, food delivery, breakfast, local dinners, babysitters, personal trainer, local tours, cooking workshops, wine tastings, and so on. Just let the host know what you are looking for, and they will be more than happy to assist you and share their Portuguese culture and heritage.
Coffee Shops, Restaurants And Bars
There are numerous coffee shops, restaurants, and bars in the neighborhood to indulge in. Try typical Portuguese food locally, and you will be spoilt for choice.
Activities
Historical Lisbon is accessible by foot from the holiday home, including train stations to get you to nearby attractions in Sintra, Cascais, and Belem. Beaches are within a 15-20 min drive by car and train. Interesting museums are all around. Portuguese food is delicious and plentiful, not to mention pastéis de nata. The oceanarium near Oriente is one of the top tourist attractions besides Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods. Lisbon’s nightlife and cultural program also offer something for everyone, from traditional Fado nights and local live music nights to the party areas Bairro Alto and Pink Street, where you can mingle and dance with locals. There is something different and new to explore every day.
