With bustling, colourful medinas – including the largest in the Arab world, ancient mosques and exquisite architecture, the Moroccan city of Fez has plenty to recommend it to visitors, including the recently opened five star Hotel Sahrai. Built on the site of a former palace and designed by architect Christophe Pillet, this is an exceptionally beautiful and luxurious place to stay and commands spectacular views of Morocco’s historic second city. You can fly direct to Fez from London Stansted with Ryanair, and the hotel is about half an hour’s drive from the airport.

Hotel Sahrai combines elements from traditional Moroccan architecture and design with a masterful use of space and light. The result is a jaw-droppingly beautiful hotel that manages to combine splendour with intimacy. In addition to fifty spacious guest rooms, Hotel Sahrai also offers two restaurants, a rooftop bar, infinity pool, Givenchy spa and more.

Accommodation ranges from standard to deluxe rooms, junior suites and the most luxurious Sahrai suite. All rooms are beautifully designed in warm grey tones and feature materials such as marble, glass and terracotta which add a luxurious feel. Bathed in natural light, all the rooms include ensuite marble bathrooms with glass walls and layers of sheer curtains so that you can choose privacy when required. Other features include floor to ceiling windows, air conditioning, minibar, Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary Wi-Fi and Acqua di Parma toiletries. Room Tips – Both pool and city view rooms are available, depending on your preference. Some rooms on the ground floor benefit from small, private courtyards.

Restaurants and Bars
Open for lunch and dinner and with a number of private dining options available, Relais de Paris is a chic but informal French brasserie style restaurant – the steaks are particularly recommended! If you’d rather sample local flavours, Amaraz offers gourmet Moroccan cuisine in a stunning, open setting. For drinks, the Rooftop bar is glamorous and chic, with spectacular views of the city, and is the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail or two. Finally, the Arcades, with its smart, white marble bar, opens every day for drinks, snacks and relaxed lunches, afternoon teas and dinners.

Pool and Activities
An infinity pool with panoramic views of Fez provides the ideal place to relax and unwind, while the Givenchy spa is a decadent treat. Located in the heart of the hotel, this beautiful Haute Couture spa features a luxurious design combining leather, wood, stone and stucco. Treatment rooms are bathed in natural light and benefit from ensuite showers, and there is a wide range of treatments and massages to choose from, all using Givenchy products. There is also a Jacuzzi and a Givenchy boutique on site. In addition to the spa, there is a fitness room kitted out with Techno Gym equipment.

Insider Info
While the hotel’s location allows it to benefit from some spectacular views of the surrounding area, it’s not advisable to walk around in the immediate vicinity, so make sure you organise transport when you want to go out.

A real triumph of design, Hotel Sahrai provides a beautiful and luxurious place to stay for anyone looking to visit the magical city of Fez.
