If you fancy being shown the very best foodie highlights the next time you visit Santa Monica then a “Santa Monica Foodie Tour” is definitely worth checking out. Santa Monica can be found just west of downtown Los Angeles (which is just over an 11 hour flight from London); with stunning beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see, it is home to the famous century-old pier and also Muscle Beach. The area has an exceptional culinary reputation and you can find everything from fine dining to a great American burger, this tour helps you to find the best Santa Monica has to offer.
The company, Santa Monica Tours, is co-owned by Zach Fahey and his wife Candace. Zach explains the mission behind the tour: “distil the best cuisine Santa Monica has to offer and share the flavours and our passion for food with our guests”. The guides all live, and perhaps more importantly, eat, in Santa Monica itself, with backgrounds in hospitality and with decades of restaurant experience, they are the perfect people to show you the culinary highlights.
The tour covers a wide variety of cuisines and will appeal to those with a desire for a more adventurous flavour! Held near the pier right before sunset, the tour gives the perfect opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Santa Monica Bay with just under a mile of walking. The tour takes around 3 hours and hits 5 restaurant locations, sampling tapas style dishes at each. Food sampled may include everything from seafood such as octopus & calamari, to bacon wraps with blue cheese and short rib tacos. You will also enjoy fun food facts, history and trivia as you explore Santa Monica.
In addition to the Foodie Tour, the company also runs a Chocolate & Cheese Tour. Highlighting unique and original examples of chocolate and cheese throughout Santa Monica, you could look forward to sampling “Goat Cheese Baklava” or “Liquid Chocolate Lavender”!
The tours do not include any beverages, but you can of course purchase them separately and your guide is on hand to offer any recommendations that you require. The tours are not designed for children but you’re welcome to bring them aged 14 and above. The tours are also suitable for wheelchairs. The restaurants vary in style but it’s worth dressing for the more upscale locations as these will be included. Dietary restrictions cannot be catered for as the very purpose of the tours is to experience a breadth of cuisines that you otherwise might not. The perfect time to take the Foodie tour is right at the start of your holiday; that way you can go back and visit all the spots on the tour during the rest of your break! Tips for your guides aren’t included but are of course appreciated.
So, whether you are visiting or are a resident, if you have been searching for a real treat for your palate, then a Foodie or Chocolate & Cheese tour is definitely for you!
