If you fancy exploring some of the finest countryside and rustic coastline that England has to offer, then Cornwall should be top of your list. To do this in comfortable, luxurious and impeccably stylish surroundings, with breath-taking views, look no further than the stunning Dreamcatcher self-catering cottage. At just a 5 hour drive from London, with much of your journey through the stunning Somerset, Devon and Cornwall countryside, this makes a wonderfully picturesque trip.
For me, a self-catering property needs to feel like a home from home but with something a little bit special and Dreamcatcher offers exactly that. It’s a very cleverly converted 19th century chapel with many of the original features remaining. These are coupled with a relaxed, industrial style that somehow manages to constantly remind you of the rugged Cornish landscape that surrounds you. There is a light airy feel, natural wood in abundance, stain glass windows, and high quality soft fabrics and furnishing. One of my favourite things about self-catering is the chance to pick up interior design tips and inspiration – Dreamcatcher had me wanting to take notes; with the wooden cladding in the bathroom, quirky lighting and oversized clocks being some of my personal highlights!
Dreamcatcher can sleep up to 8. It houses 3 generous king-sized rooms and a single twin room. 2 of the king-sized rooms can even be converted into twins if preferred. There is a beautiful, well equipped farmhouse kitchen featuring a dining area to sit 10, as well as a spacious lounge and a private well-stocked library. Outside, the beautiful cottage garden includes a kitchen and dining area with a BBQ and an open fire pit plus 2 natural ponds, all overlooking the stunning rolling Cornish hills. The property is well equipped with technology and offers 2 TVs and Blu-ray/DVD players, Satellite TV, Netflix, Sonos sound system and superfast fibre for the home broadband. Children are welcome, with a cot and high chair provided on request. Pets are also allowed so the property is well suited to families and groups, but would also be perfect for a couple looking for a break away from it all. A plentiful hamper is provided which offers a light supper as well as everything you need for breakfast the next morning, plus a complimentary bottle of wine; all which really help you relax quickly into holiday mode.
The market town of Penzance is only a short drive away. Here you can stock up on local delicacies and explore the many independent shops, antique shops and art galleries. If you can bear to drag yourself away from the beauty of the cottage for a longer period, the magic of Cornwall awaits. You are literally spoilt for choice: some of the best beaches that the country has to offer are 30 minutes away at both St Ives and Hayle; plus St Michael’s Mount, Trengwainton Gardens, Tremeneere Sculpture Gardens and Trevaylor Woods are all nearby. For the more adventurous, there are a variety of water sports to sample, alternatively you can take the relaxation to another level with a pampering experience at the cottage itself. If you want to eat out, there is a local pub just a 2 mile walk away which offers great pub fare or for finer dining pay a visit to The Shore run by Bruce Renney, or Ben Tunnicliffe at the Tolcarne.
To make your stay that little bit more special and really sample the local produce at its best, you can arrange for a handpicked private chef to come and cook for you at the property. Continuing on the theme of feeling well looked after, the owners will also stock your fridge and pantry and light the fires before your arrival if you wish and can provide a tailored itinerary to help you explore the best of Cornwall; all these extra touches really help set the property apart. All in all, Dreamcatcher is a truly delightful experience in an equally exquisite part of the country.
