Book A Stay

Located in the revamped Wong Chuk Hang area, Ovolo Southside Hotel is a New York-style warehouse conversion Boutique hotel with 162 rooms and bags of character. It is the first serious hotel to emerge in the southern district neighborhood of Wong Chuk Hang. It is surrounded by dozens of amazing modern art galleries hidden inside a network of industrial buildings. Wong Chuk Hang is fast becoming THE place to go in Hong Kong for art, culture, and fashion.

Location

In terms of getting around Hong Kong, Ovolo Southside is only an 8 minutes walk to Ocean Park, or you can take a public bus which is just one stop away. The bus stop, conveniently located opposite the hotel, will give you access to attractions such as Repulse Bay and Stanley Market. Ovolo Southside also offers guests a complimentary shuttle bus service to and from Hong Kong MTR Station and Admiralty.

Style & Character

As you enter Ovolo Southside Hotel, you are met by a modern art space that could be straight out of the Hollywood movie Total Recall. The entrance could only be described as an “Art Space” with stone floors and an 18-meter video wall display on one side. In fact, throughout the hotel, you will find brilliant art from local artists.

Inside, the feeling is luxury meets industrial chic. Utilitarian steel furniture and heavy-duty fixtures and fittings complement concrete floors, wooden walls, and exposed brickwork.

Rooms

Rooms are super stylish again with exposed brickwork. The designers have used open-plan wardrobes with crisscrossing slats to make the rooms feel bigger and more open. Wooden floors and industrial detailing (silver piping and such like) give each room its own character, and floor-to-ceiling windows give you incredible views over the buildings to the green mountains beyond. Long Loft suites on the 21st floor are Ovolo’s largest room category. They are a junior suite in style, with a comfortable seating area slightly separated from the bed and another slatted wooden screen. The Corner Deluxe rooms are also a good choice here, with a smaller sitting area and incredible wraparound views from the bed.

As with other Ovolo hotels, rooms come with a complimentary goody bag filled with snacks and chocolates (replenished daily). The mini bar is also free, along with Wi-Fi. The beds are comfortable and the rooms also have an Apple TV, iron, free local calls, and flexible check-out.

Food & Drink

Daily breakfast is included at CIRQLE, the hotel’s fourth-floor restaurant that also happens to be one of the neighborhood’s best restaurants. During the day, they serve up Mediterranean-style East-Asian cuisine, and uniquely, they have an expansive open-air terrace overlooking the Southside for warmer days.

It is worth mentioning that the trendy lobby bar (complete with a pool table) offers free drinks, snacks all day, and free wine, beer, spirits, and canapés nightly from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

The rooftop lounge called ABOVE is the place to be after dark. Featuring modern cocktails and adorned by stunning art murals, this swanky rooftop bar offers a funky place to hang out with unrivaled views. Watch Hong Kong sparkle far below as you enjoy a signature cocktail.

Conclusion

We love the character of the modern industrial rooms, the free drinks and snacks at the Lo Lounge, and the gorgeous rooftop views from the ABOVE rooftop bar. This is surely one of the best places to end your evening in the city. The 24-hour gym and free laundry facilities are also handy, to say the least.
