When the weather is cold, there is nothing better than working out where you could and should travel to next. Top of my list is usually a sandy beach where I can bask in the sunshine and dip my toes into azure blue waters. Here is my pick of the best white-sand beaches in the world and the top luxury hotels to stay in right next to these brilliant beaches.
1. Best White Sand Beaches In The Seychelles
I may be biased, but there is a new hotel in the Seychelles which will undoubtedly take top position when it comes to luxury hotels in the Seychelles next to gorgeous beaches. Six Senses Zil Pasyon in the Seychelles (pictured above) will open this summer and is an absolute must for any luxury traveller.
2. Best White Sand Beaches In The Maldives
A honeymoon is not complete without a trip to the Maldives and some of the best luxury boutique hotel choices in this slice of paradise include Gili Lankanfushi with over-water bungalows which sit above a wonderful unspoiled reef, Diamonds Thudufushi which also sits on its own private island. The new St. Regis Vommuli Resort, Maldives which is the debut of Starwoods St Regis brand in the Maldives is also a great choice. The Maldives also features in my best destinations in the world.
3. Best White Sand Beaches On Zanzibar
This beautiful island is often left off “top 10” lists as it has yet to become a mainstream destination and yet the beaches and reefs here match and even beat many beaches in the Maldives. The Park Hyatt Zanzibar is a great starting point for exploring this island, but for a true bare foot paradise experience, you should try the exclusive Diamonds Star of the East, a luxury sanctuary set on the north-western tip of Zanzibar.
4. Best White Sand Beaches in Hawaii
This is a tough one as many of the best beaches in Hawaii are not connected to a hotel or resort. Instead you need to follow a local down a dusty road to find a secluded white sand experience. Having said that, the beach at the Four Seasons Manele Bay on Lanai is ridiculously beautiful, calm and this beach is very much exclusive to this hotel. On Maui, the most high-end resort is Wailea and the beach in front of the resort, which can be accessed by a number of hotels including the Four Seasons Wailea, is pretty darned nice!
5. Best White Sand Beaches In Cornwall
Perhaps Cornwall is not a standard choice for a top 10 list of beaches, but on a sunny day, the beaches in Cornwall match the beauty of any other white sand beach in the world. For luxury accomodation above a secluded pirate style cove, remote Cornish retreats do not come much better than Trevalsa Court Hotel.
6. Best White Sand Beaches In The Caribbean
So many beaches, so little time. It is impossible to choose the best beach in the Caribbean, but if you are looking for a luxury hotel with an idyllic beach, you won’t find better than Amanera in the Dominican Republic by Aman hotels, one of my favourite luxury hotel chains.
7. Best White Sand Beaches In The South Pacific
I am always a champion of luxury boutique hotels over a big chain hotels, and the recently built Tides Reach Resort, just a few steps from the Pacific Ocean offers the perfect boutique experience in paradise. For something completely top of the range, The Brando is also worth a peek.
8. Best White Sand Beaches In the Algarve
For Europeans, the Algarve offers some of the best beaches within a short flight, particularly when compared to the rather brown or even black sand you find in and around destinations like Marbella and the Canary Islands. A wonderful hotel which has a rather Cornish setting – except that it offers guaranteed sunshine – is the Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel.
9. Best White Sand Beaches In Nicaragua
This up and coming destination offers miles and miles and miles of unspoilt beaches. Hacienda & Ecolodge Morgan’s Rock is located on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, on the edge of a 4,000 acre expanse of Nicaraguan jungle and on the shores of the most perfect beach. At this kind of unique resort you will experience the best of jungle wildlife as well as an expanse of beach which is hard to beat.
