Name: Hannah's Bed And Breakfast
Location: United Kingdom
Historic English Cathedral cities do not come more perfect than Winchester and Hannah’s Luxury Bed And Breakfast is perfectly located to enjoy it all. At just an hour from London (and on the mainline out of Waterloo), Winchester is a breath of fresh air and ideal for a quick escape. It is packed with pretty buildings, monuments and museums and sits on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
Winchester’s sloping High Street is topped by the imposing Anglo-Saxon Westgate. Hidden behind is the Great Hall, one of two surviving parts of Winchester Castle. Within this hall is a Round Table, hanging on the wall, which is linked to the legend of King Arthur. Winchester’s most famous building is its stunning cathedral. It is worth knowing that visitors can attend Choral Evensong, at 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and 3.30pm on Sunday which is a wonderful way to start the evening in a spectacular setting. Within the cathedral you will also find the grave of Jane Austen, and the house where the Pride and Prejudice author died in 1817 is a short walk away in College Street and marked by a blue plaque (it is now a private home).
John Keats is another literary name associated with Winchester. His daily walk through the historic heart of Winchester and along the river was the inspiration for one of his most famous works. You can follow the poet’s path right through his water meadows beside the river Itchen.
A Review Of Hannah’s Bed and Breakfast In Winchester
Once a livery, then a dancehall, this ramshackle old building in the heart of Winchester has been lovingly brought back to life. Hidden down a tiny close off Parchment Street, this historic house was built in the late 1800s and has been beautifully renovated. It retains the original outer walls, but has a brand new interior. The result is airy and modern loft-style rooms, a main lounge painted in rich colours with gorgeous sofas sitting fireside next to a log burner (pictured above) and access out onto a private patio. The dining room is light and bright, where you can enjoy a fresh and delicious breakfast cooked by Hannah.
The three bedrooms, with hugely high ceilings, overlook the courtyard and each have a rather fun wooden ladder-staircase which will take you to a bathing mezzanine where you can bath under the skylight and watch the clouds pass by. A sunny aspect and warm oak floors make each room a cosy and stylish retreat. Each bedroom also has lockable doors, king size beds, 32 inch TVs and wifi.
Only a short stroll away is the bustle of the centre of Winchester. Cafes, bars and restaurants including the recently opened Rick’s Steins are just moments away. Hannah’s is a boutique bed and breakfast and the kind of place you will want to return to – it is simply too lovely not to!
