Name: Villa Le Maschere
If you have an eye for beauty, you will fall in love with the Hotel Villa Le Maschere. Dating back to the 1500s, this Tuscan villa, once frequented by popes and kings, has been lovingly restored to its former glory. Now, this stunning luxury hotel combines the best of traditional and contemporary style. Situated in the peaceful countryside of the Mugello valley, Villa Le Maschere is the perfect place to get away from it all, but don’t discount it if you’re seeking a little more excitement. With the famous city of Florence just 40 km away, you won’t have to travel far to get the best of both worlds.
Brimming with history, Hotel Villa Le Maschere was once home to noblemen and visited by many distinguished guests including Pope Pius IX. Many of the original features of the villa, such as frescoes, statues and Venetian style floors have been recovered and now sit alongside the contemporary furnishings, making this hotel a real feast for the eyes.
The hotel has 65 rooms divided into four categories – elegant, superior, junior suites and suites. All rooms boast very stylish décor, as well as bathrobes and slippers, hairdryer, minibar, LCD television with satellite channels, remote controlled air conditioning and free high-speed internet connection. The suites all have their own unique character and offer the ultimate in luxurious surroundings for your stay. (The bathroom of the Marchesa Liliana suite, complete with 2-person Jacuzzi, is a sight to behold!) All rooms come with a free shuttle bus service to Florence city centre, but if you book a suite or junior suite you will also have the option of free airport/train station transfers. Room tip – Rooms at the rear of the hotel overlook the beautiful Tuscan hills, a spectacular view that’s not to be missed.
Restaurant Il Piopponero offers lunch and dinner in style, with mosaic floors and some of the Villa’s original stuccoes ornamenting the dining room. French doors open out onto the terrace for al fresco dining during the warmer months. In-keeping with the whole feel of the hotel, the food here celebrates the marriage between old and new, with a modern spin being put on traditional Tuscan dishes. A full breakfast service is also available at Il Cancello di Ghiereto, with a sweet and savoury buffet on offer, including local pastries, meats and cheeses, as well as cooked dishes from the a la carte menu. Finally, for an alternative dining experience, Il Divinvino is situated deep in the brick vaults of the old cellars and provides the perfect atmosphere for cosy, rustic dinners and wine tasting.
