When searching for a hotel with an outlandish, almost unbelievable design, the five-star Shimao Intercontinental being built outside Shanghai in China fits the bill. Using British design vision a waterfall-shaped hotel has been created that drops down off a vertical cliff face.
Carved into the edge of an abandoned quarry outside Shanghai, the five-star Intercontinental resort is due for completion in early 2017.
This lavish £345 million GBP five-star hotel includes 328 rooms on 19 floors cascading down a rugged cliff face toward a 90-meter-deep lagoon. Two floors will be built underwater and will feature an aquarium with glass walls. The British design firm behind the plans claims the roof of the £345 million GBP hotel will sit just 15 meters above the ground.
